Eliminate the smoke in your home
The fires are raging on the west coast of the USA. In Oregon, over 500,000 people were evacuated. Many houses were destroyed. Some of the most beautiful places I love are burning to the ground, the number of lost animals and the number of human deaths are increasing. Although we are currently in no immediate danger from the current fires where I live, we are being bombarded with smoke that is filling our skies with extremely dangerous conditions.
Conditions are so bad that many businesses have closed until further notice. For those of you stuck indoors and trying to stay away from the smoke that is affecting your health, there are other ways to eliminate smoke in your home besides making sure you stay indoors and close all windows and doors.
Ways to eliminate smoke in your home
A pot full of water, baking soda, lavender, sage, thyme, oregano, rosemary, eucalyptus and mint
- Air purifier: If you have an air purifier, turn it on. Air purifiers can be expensive, but I found one that is affordable, medical grade, and cleans the air well. Here is a link to learn more about this air purifier.
- Pot of water: Fill either a Dutch oven or a pot on the stove with water, add a cup of baking soda and herbs. The smoke particles attach to the steam. The herbs cleanse the lungs. Properties and make the air smell good. The baking soda will absorb the smell. Herbs to use: Sage, thyme, eucalyptus, rosemary, lavender, mint, oregano, mullein, nettle leaf, licorice root, cinnamon, cloves and more. Lemon and orange peels also taste great when thrown into a pot of water!
- Use exhaust fans E.g. in your bathroom, kitchen, etc. This will initially help extract the smoke, but should not be used constantly.
- Use water diffusers to purify the air Make sure you use 100% essential oils. We place these in every room and use essential oils like eucalyptus to help us breathe when we sleep. Click here to order a diffuser.
