Taste the Difference Belgian Milk Chocolate Tiramisu Egg 230g copy

This unique egg stood out in testing. It has an elegant tall, swirled design and the creamy milk chocolate is given a grown up twist with the bold espresso flavour running through, plus crunchy from small pieces of biscuit.

Available from:
Sainsbury’s (£8)

Runner up: Lidl Deluxe filled layer egg (milk choc)

  • Available from Lidl (in-store)
Lidl biscuit egg

Those with a super sweet tooth will love this egg. Two layers of creamy milk chocolate conceal a hidden layer of gooey caramel which is smooth and buttery. It’s undeniably on the sweet side and doesn’t have an intricate design, but is a lot of fun.

Available from:
Lidl (in-store)

Best dark chocolate Easter egg

Winner: Morrisons The Best Belgian Dark Chocolate with Pink Himalayan salt

Morrisons dark chocolate egg

A good dark chocolate for an Easter egg, this thick egg has a really smooth texture and good snap. The flavour has a subtle balanced bitterness and pleasing hint of salt.

Available from:
Morrisons (£7.50)

Best vegan Easter egg

Taste the Difference Free From Extra Thick Dark Choc Honeycomb and Biscuit Egg 250g copy

Gluten-free and vegan, this egg means no one has to miss out this Easter. The dark chocolate has an attractive sheen, studded with good chunks of biscuit and sweet pieces of honeycomb.

Available from:

A shape we hadn’t seen before in Easter chocolate, this fun design won us over. It is made of creamy blonde chocolate and although no real croissant is involved, it has pieces of wafer sprinkled throughout to add the flaky texture inspired by croissants.

Available from:
Waitrose (£15)

Best alternative flavour egg

M&S pistachio egg

This egg has a range of textures, from the dark chocolate with good snap and crunchy pistachio pieces to the creamy inner layer adding extra sweetness. The amount of pistachio flavour is impressive and it is rich overall.

Available from:
Ocado (£20)

How we chose the winners

The olive team chose 13 categories having researched which products you, our readers, would be most likely to buy this Easter. We invited all the big supermarkets to select the products they wanted to nominate (just one entry per category, so they had to choose carefully). Our expert panel of judges blind-tasted them, rating each on taste, texture and appearance. We then awarded ‘winner’ and runner up accolades to our favourites.
