Colored Diamonds and Gemstones Lead Phillips’ New York Jewels Sale
On Dec. 13, Phillips is hosting its New York Jewels sale at its Manhattan headquarters. “We’re particularly excited to present several examples of antique-cut diamonds, which are enjoying a surge in popularity right now,” said Cristina Rodrigo, jewels specialist and head of sale at Phillips New York, in a statement. “Our top lot, an impressive fancy yellow diamond ring with an old European brilliant-cut diamond weighing more than 43 carats, is a striking example.” The 43.15 ct. yellow diamond ring carries a presale estimate between $550,000 and $850,000.
Phillips’ 146-lot event also features colored jewels, signed pieces, and rare designs from important makers, including the René Boivin aquamarine necklace and earrings pictured above, a set known as a demi-parure (estimate $130,000–$180,000). Crafted of 18k gold circa 1950, the pieces are set with step-cut, baguette, and round aquamarines; the necklace has a detachable brooch and can be converted to a bracelet.
“We are thrilled to present…the December New York Jewels auction, featuring exceptional pieces from important makers such as René Boivin, Suzanne Belperron, and Jean Schlumberger alongside stunning offerings in the colored gemstones and diamond categories,” said Rodrigo.
