Sophie Noel – LOUD WOMEN

69

A LOUD WOMEN spotlight interview with Sophie Noel, ahead of her performance at LOUD WOMEN Fest Halifax, Nova Scotia on 18 Oct - and the following weekend at Nova Scotia Music Week.

Who’s in the band, and what do you all play?

I’m the lead singer and guitar player, Tori plays bass, and Clare plays drums!

Where do you call home (geographically and musically)?

I call Dartmouth, Nova Scotia home, but I was born and raised in Vancouver. Both coasts are homey to me.

Describe your sound in three words.

Warm, Nostalgic, Exciting

Tell us about your latest release — what’s it about, and why should we all turn it up loud?

‘I Think I Do This’ is about realizing you’re falling out of love. It’s my Sheryl Crowe bop, and it’s for anyone who is fighting for their life through their Saturn return and trying to break the patterns they fell into in their early 20s.

If you could rip up the rulebook of the music industry, what’s the first thing you’d rewrite?

I’d abolish ageism in the music industry! I want to see more women in their 50s and 60s and 70s shredding. I need to see my future.

What’s the proudest moment you’ve had so far as a band/artist?

When I was 10 I spontaneously signed up for the singing contest at Save On Foods in Langley, BC and sang ‘Country Roads’. I had never sung in front of anyone before and I was so proud of myself for getting up there. My nana was standing in the audience waiting to do her grocery shopping. I won a ball cap and a boombox, and I think someone told me I was second place but I felt like a winner.

What’s next for you?

I’m playing another Halifax gig on November 14th, supporting Beauts for their album release at the Bus Stop Theatre! Also – my debut album is coming out next year!

Where can people listen, follow, and support your music?

The best place to find me is my website – and sign up for my mailing list!!!! You won’t regret it.
