Ingredients Overview

You just need the standard hot chocolate ingredients for this recipe – some chopped milk and dark chocolate, warm milk, fresh milk, and a pinch of salt.

We make the salted caramel syrup from scratch in this recipe for maximum flavor, but it can be replaced with store-bought syrup in a pinch.

To top off, we add some whipped cream and chocolate shavings (for good measure of course!) ❤️

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between caramel and salted caramel?

Salted caramel is just caramel syrup with the addition of salt – it sounds like a small difference but makes for a much more complex flavor profile. Paired with the rich and creamy hot chocolate, it’s just perfect.

Can I add some coffee to this?

Absolutely! Adding some brewed coffee to this salted caramel hot chocolate will help balance the richness.

Can I make this without whipped cream?

Yep! The whipped cream is an optional topping that just makes this hot chocolate more decadent. Since we are already adding cream to the hot chocolate itself, it’ll still be rich on its own.

Which store bought caramel can I use instead?

Any salted caramel or caramel syrup will work here – you can use Sprig or Hershey’s in a pinch.
