Liverpool’s Ruti has released The Perch Cover Sessions – transforming four classic songs into mystically mellow acoustic versions. The EP is out now on PMR Records
When Ruti sings, it sounds like notes preciously captured from the wind. Their voice is so hauntingly beautiful, it stops you in your tracks and coaxes you to shuffle forward.
My favorite of the four tracks is Ruti’s version of ‘Hey Ya!’ by OutKast.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the energy and fun of OutKast’s ‘Hey Ya!’ I could sing it in my sleep. Ruti’s cover version however, is so mystically mellow as they play with the vocal pacing that a sense of déjà vu takes you over and makes you question whether or not you truly know the words.

When asked about her upcoming shows Ruti says:
“Performing is my favourite part,” Ruti says. “Being in the moment when I’m performing, it’s just sheer relief. It’s a pure expression, you have one moment to put your heart into everything.”
