Paul Morelli Revives Serpentine, a Snake Collection

Paul Morelli is tapping into its archives this fall with the revival of Serpentine, a collection originally built around the darker symbolism of the snake and now reinterpreted in a more luminous direction.

The nine-piece collection—two rings, three earrings, one bracelet, and two cuffs—is crafted in white and yellow gold and centers on the ouroboros motif: the snake consuming its own tail, a symbol with roots in ancient Egyptian and Greek iconography that has carried associations with eternity, renewal, and cyclical transformation across cultures for millennia.

The design approach puts the serpent’s sculptural form at the center rather than subordinating it to stone weight. A single line of white diamonds traces the snake’s back, culminating in one diamond at the eye as the serpent curves toward its own tail. The earrings offer a glimpse of the white gold ventral side—a detail that rewards close attention. Ruby-set eyes add unexpected color against the gold and diamonds, while black acrylic cuffs create a graphic counterpoint to the more precious materials elsewhere in the collection.

The Serpentine revival arrives as snake motifs continue their extended run in fine jewelry; from high jewelry houses to independent designers, the serpent has been one of the most consistently compelling symbols of the past several seasons. What distinguishes this iteration is its archival grounding: Morelli has been working with the motif since the brand’s earlier decades, and the revival carries that history while shifting away from the moodier aesthetic of the original version.

The collection is available at Paul Morelli’s flagship at 725 Madison Avenue in New York and at paulmorelli.com. Private appointments can be booked through the brand’s concierge.
