The myths and reality of COPD

How much do you know chronically obstructive lung diseases?

The term chronically obstructive lung disease (COPD) is used for a group of chronic lung diseases, including emphysema and bronchitis.

Mito:

COPD is a men’s disorder.

Reality:

Women have a greater incidence of COPD than men.

  • Women receive lower age diagnoses
  • Smokers have 50% more likely to develop COPD than smokers

Mito: Only smokers can develop COPD.

reality: You can develop COPD, even if you have never smoked. Other COPD risk factors are genetics and exposure to:

  • Passive smoking
  • pollution
  • Cleaning products
  • Chemicals or aerosols

Mito: You cannot train if you have COPD.

reality: Regular movement is useful for people with COPD.

You can improve your:

  • Self -esteem
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Use of oxygen

reality: COPD is difficult to diagnose because it has the same symptoms as other lung diseases, heart failure and pulmonary embolism.

Other reasons are:
