Mini Review: Violette FR – The Stripe

2

Violette_FR is one of those brands that was on my radar for a while, thanks to Instagram ads, etc. And just like everyone, I’ve always been captivated by the concept of French-girl beauty. The former beauty marketer in me knows that it’s just an (overused!) marketing tactic, but what can I say . . . it works, at least for me! The idea of easy, effortless beauty gets me every time. I wound up purchasing four products. Two shades of the brand’s iconic Bisou Balm, a blush, and a highlighter. Today, I’m sharing my honest thoughts!

Violette FR Review

Overall, I like the brand a lot. For me, the hero product is definitely (far and away) the Bisou Balm. I tried it in two shades and will absolutely buy more.

Bisou Balm

Violette Paris’s Bisou Balm is what got me to try the line. It looked like that perfect undone French girl lipstick, and it’s exactly that. I purchased two colors: Rose Latte (the perfect pinky nude) and Bonbon Coquelicot (a warm poppy red!). I like that the formula is very sheer and matte, but it still hydrates. It has a subtle blurring effect and buildable color. Apply one coat for the daytime, or go bigger with three coats for the evening. It’s easy to use and unf*ckupable, which is a quality I appreciate, as I’ve never been a huge makeup person. It feels really good on your lips. Also, I haven’t tried anything else on the market quite like this.

Bisou Blush

I purchased the Bisou Blush in Mélanie (a peachy coral) and was surprised by how much I like it. The formula is really creamy and blendable, with great wear. The product is slightly marbled for a multi-dimensional effect. My favorite thing about it is the brush on the end. This is so smart, making it perfect for on-the-go. You can easily throw it in your purse for quick touch-ups.

Baume Shine

Baume Shine is truthfully the product I use least (the other two have become mainstays in my routine!). What piqued my interest was that the inspiration behind creating it was the Neoclassical painters (who did highlighter very well!). The brand created it with that in mind . . . a shiny little thing you can use to cast the light onto your skin like a paintbrush. I like it but don’t love it. I feel like it’s a little bit like glittery Vaseline, which has its place but not for every day. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either. It just doesn’t feel special or like something I want to reach for when there are other options.
