Have Yourself a Merry Little New Moon in Sadge – Anne Ortelee Astrology

5

Dear friends,

There’s a New Moon on Friday, and a New Moon Manifestation Circle webinar coming Saturday evening. Normally, I try to do the class prior to the astronomical event, but I’m fighting off a cold today and will be busy the next couple of nights. So, Saturday! Please click here to learn more and to register.

The Sun and Moon are scheduled to meet up this Friday, December 19th at 8:43 PM Eastern US time, at the Zodiacal degree of 28 Sagittarius. There, they are closely conjunct Venus (at 24 Sagittarius), Juno (at 26 Sagittarius), and Mars in the sign of his exaltation (at 3 degrees Capricorn). There is, moreover, a fifth planet in this Sagittarian cluster — Mercury at 10 Sadge, not quite close enough to be conjunct the New Moon, but still infusing jovial energy into the proceedings.

All of the Sadge planets, as well as Neptune, Saturn, and the North Node in Pisces, are answering to a retrograde Jupiter in Cancer, the sign of his exaltation. Jupiter lands in the Twelfth House of the chart cast for Washington, DC, giving a tenderhearted, nostalgic, bittersweet flavor to our holiday celebrations.

With so many planets in the final degrees of their signs (Uranus in Taurus, Neptune and Saturn in Pisces, and the Sun and Moon in Sagittarius) there’s an emphasis on endings and beginnings. Change is stressful for most of us: is it possible you could have some fun, nevertheless? The Cosmos wants to teach us how to live in the present moment, which is all that we have, after all. THIS is your life, and THIS is the wonderful person that you are growing into.

Listen to your inner wisdom. The stellium in Sagittarius is also conjunct the Galactic Center, a portal for psychic downloads. If it feels right, take a chance and say yes quickly! We may need to iron out some wrinkles after Jupiter goes direct in the spring. Nonetheless, it’s a great time to meet partners who surprise and enlighten you.

There’s a sense of tension in the chart, due to the fact that the Sun, Moon, Juno, Venus, and Mars are squaring Saturn and Neptune in Pisces and Ceres in Aries. Clear action is required to resolve it. Light a candle, take a breath, and leap!

And if you’d like to learn more about this week’s New Moon in Sagittarius, I invite you to join me for my next webinar on Saturday, December 20th, 2025 at 7:30 PM Eastern US time.

Big hugs,

Anne

P.S. I have two new free videos up on YouTube that are the result of collaborations with fellow astrologers. We posted the recording of the presentation about Zohran Mamdani that I gave to the Big Apple Astrology Meetup Group (which is run by Danny Larkin), and I also recently did a year-ahead preview with rising star Dabney Lawless. Check them out!

P.P.S. We also just opened registration for my Setting Your Intentions for 2026 webinar, an in-depth exploration of the energy next year, month by month, which will take place on Monday, December 29th at 7:30 PM Eastern.

P.P.P.S. Are you signed up for my Patreon, Cup Full of Stars? For $17 per month you get daily astro updates from me, plus great people to chat with in the comments!
