Halle Berry Is Literally Counting Down the Days Until Menopause
It’s not every day that someone tells you they’re looking forward to menopause. The phase that ovary-havers go through as their hormones decline and periods end is described as everything from inconvenient to hellish, often lasting years with symptoms like hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and fluctuating moods—so it doesn’t exactly sound like a vacation. But Halle Berry knows exactly what day is her tentative first official day of menopause, and she seems to be genuinely looking forward to it.
“If I make it to March 21st period free, I’m in the menopause,” Berry told The Drew Barrymore Show‘s live audience, which responded with thunderous applause. Drew Barrymore herself, who is also in the pre-menopause phase called perimenopause, was equally congratulatory.
“Oh my god, I’m marking that day in my calendar,” Barrymore said elatedly. “You know, the good news is if you don’t get there, we start all over again.”
“And I’ve started twice over, so, you know, I’m crossing my fingers this time. I got six months in, I got nine months in, and this is the longest I’ve gotten,” Berry says, referring to how one is considered “in menopause” when they go 12 months without a period.
“I went 11 months and got it,” Barrymore said, immediately apologizing to Berry for getting her nervous about that possibility.
Part of why Berry seems so eager to be in menopause is because she feels empowered by the information she has not only proactively pursued but is also trying to make more accessible through her brand, Respin, which provides a platform for women to connect with the menopause community and to get a personalized plan through a subscription called Respin Health.
