We were wandering around London’s West End, looking for a bite to eat before going to see Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, a play at the Palace Theatre. Through a combination of Google Maps and looking up reviews, we ended up stopping in Barrafina on Dean Street, a no-reservation walk-in only tapas bar.

Little did we know (until after the fact) that Barrafina London has been featured in 50Best Discovery, the Michelin Guide, and boasts five locations throughout the city of London! This Dean Street one is the original (it’s super charming inside!), and is the only one where you can’t make reservations.

The Tapas are Great!

Barrafina London
Tapas are the star of the show here, and they are GREAT! I loved the pan con tomate (£8.5), which came with crusty bread generously topped with fragrant tomatoes.
Barrafina London
The Classic Tortilla (£13.5) was perfectly executed (and nice and a bit liquidy inside). I always love classic and plain, but you can also get it with chorizo or “prawn and piquillo pepper.”
Barrafina London
Scallop Crudo (£12) was simple but delicious.

The Grilled Asparagus + Egg was actually a special of the day showcasing the recent seasonal vegetable.
Barrafina London
Ibérico Tomato Salad (£9.5) showcased some gorgeous tomatoes from the Iberian region of Spain. I don’t know why I automatically thought of jamon Ibérico when I saw “Ibérico”, and was almost a bit surprised at first that there was no ham, haha!
Barrafina London
We ended by sharing the Pluma Ibérica pork chop with Mojo Verde (£28.50), which was fantastic! It was cooked medium, so the meat as actually a bit pink. However, it was insanely juicy and super flavorful. We demolished the whole thing!

Barrafina London – General Thoughts

I was pleasantly surprised and delighted at our meal here. Great food, reasonable prices, super cute environment . . . and we didn’t even have to wait in line because we arrived so early! (before our 7PM West End show).

The restaurant has expanded to five different locations in some of London’s most popular areas, including Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, Coal Drops Yard, and Borough Yards. Those are all super fun areas to visit, so if you are there and want some great Spanish tapas, this is a great option. This original Dean Street location is great for those planning on seeing a show, or just anyone who wants a more casual dinner of small bites of delicious food!
