On March 4, Regina Spektor performed a sold-out show at Thalia Hall in Chicago. The performance not only marked the end of a three-night run at the historic venue, but it also served as the finale of the extremely popular Songs (And Other Songs) Tour.
As the tour title suggests, Spektor’s second album Songs, which recently received its first-ever wide release despite originally dropping back in 2002, was featured heavily throughout the evening.
“I’m gonna play all of Songs. I’m going to play it out of order, just, you know, ’cause. And thank you so much for coming to the last ever Songs (And Other Songs) show. It really has been such a trip to learn all of it. And one of the questions that kept coming up is, “Why – Why does this weird shit exist,” said Spektor with a laugh shortly after walking on stage. “I guess that’s part of the fun of being a human. You can just make weird stuff and leave it at that.”
“Prisoners,” “Oedipus,” and “Samson” were all featured during the Songs portion of the performance. “Better,” “Fidelity,” and “Us” were also highlights on the evening’s setlist.
The show very much had a communal vibe perhaps because everyone in the room had a sense that they were among friends they hadn’t yet met. With her “weird stuff,” Spektor has brought people with a love of intricate music and a sweet sense of humor together for a night of songs… and other songs.
