Gearing up for interviews soon? Something you’ll often hear recommended is to get “seasonless suiting,” or “four season suiting.” (Long ago it also used to be sometimes called “tropical wool.”) But what does that really mean — and where do you find it these days?

As of 2025, some of our favorite seasonless suiting includes Ann Taylor and J.Crew on the affordable side, and Theory, Brooks Brothers, M.M.LaFleur and Argent on the more expensive side. What Is Seasonless Suiting?
The idea behind seasonless suiting is that it’s, well, seasonless. This generally means wool, but a particular lightweight suiting material that can actually be worn even in summer.
Can Polyester Count as Seasonless Suiting?
I think most people would consider a wool suit to be seasonless — but these days it’s very hard to find a 100% wool suit; most of the wool suiting materials have a bit of spandex woven into them for stretch.
Some brands DO call polyester blends “seasonless suiting” — for example, both J.Crew’s 4-Season Stretch and Ann Taylor’s Seasonless Stretch suiting is a blend of polyester, viscose, and spandex. On the plus side, the suits are machine washable!
Super 120s
Years ago you would find a lot of, for example, J.Crew suiting that called itself “super 120s” wool — this tells you how fine the fabric is. As Gentleman’s Gazette puts it,
Super numbers represent the fineness of the worsted wool fiber used in the fabric. The higher the number, such as Super 100s, 120s, or 150s, the finer the wool thread is. The actual number is calculated by the maximum number of hanks of wool that can be spun into one pound of wool. For example, if you can spin 100 hanks each 560 yards long, the resulting wool is classified as Super 100s.
As J.Crew used to note,
Why so super? 120 is the measure of the yarn (the higher the number, the finer the yarn), and since 120 is one of the finest, our fabric boasts a silky-smooth finish and a refined drape.
The suiting material is still around, of course, but it’s harder to find brands specifically claiming to use it, especially since if they’re talking about their wool they’re more likely to be telling you about the sustainability of it. (For example, here’s Theory’s page on its “Good Wool.”)
Tropical Wool
“Tropical wool” is another term for seasonless suiting that you don’t see very often right now, but has been around in the past — it generally meant wool that was so breathable you could wear it even in the tropics. I had always found these clothes to be pretty much seasonless, though.
Proper Cloth distinguishes tropical wool from worsted wool, noting that the looser weave “can be lightweight too but can also be woven to be heavier and appropriate for year-round wear.”
What Is NOT Seasonless Suiting
You will see a lot of different fabrics for suits these days… none of these are what they’re talking about:
- ponte or scuba
- polyester blends
- “crepe” suiting
- linen
- cotton or stretch cotton
- tweed
- velvet
Where to Find Seasonless Suits for WOmen
Theory
Theory’s wool suiting has long been the gold standard for new BigLaw lawyers ready to make an investment — they make great basics in classic cuts. Their Good Wool suiting is a 96% wool / 4% elastane blend, with tons of different cuts for pants and blazers.
M.M.LaFleur
M.M.LaFleur has a lot of great suits, but their core suiting is probably their wool twill, made of 95% wool and 5% elastane. They note that their products are made in China with fabric from Italy, and note how breathable the fabric is.
One great feature is that they are constantly making new pieces to update the core collection — they have a petite-friendly blazer, as well as trendy items like wide culottes, vests, and more.
Brooks Brothers
Brooks Brothers makes a lot of women’s suits of the “fun” variety, with lots of options for bright colors, patterns, and seasonal fabrics.
Their “Essentials” suiting, though, has been around for a long time, and is worth discussing here — the wool/elastane blend is perfect as a seasonless suit. As they note,
the wool is refined, lightweight wool from Italy’s renowned Lanificio di Tollegno mill. A hint of two-way stretch adds just-right flexibility. These suiting separates also come with a consistent color guarantee, so the navy jacket you buy today will match the navy pencil skirt you purchase next year, and beyond.
Ooh, the color guarantee is nice (although colors can change slightly as you launder suits — it’s one of the reasons we recommend dry cleaning all pieces of women’s suits at the same time/frequency). The suits are available in basic colors, sizes 00-16.
Ann Taylor
Ann Taylor’s “seasonless stretch,” as we noted above, is not actually wool — it’s a polyester blend. Still, that does mean it’s machine washable. (Check out our roundup on the best machine washable suits if this is of interest to you!)
They make it in a bunch of different colors, cuts, and styles, so there’s something for everyone. For interviews, though, we’d recommend sticking with dark neutrals like black, navy, or dark gray.

J.Crew
J.Crew’s “4-season stretch suiting” is another one that is not made of wool, but instead a polyester/viscose/elastane blend. J.Crew touts that the brand includes “at least 30% recycled materials,” for what that’s worth. They describe their “famous four-season stretch” as never losing its shape.
(They do HAVE suiting made of wool, but they tend to be novelty suits instead of their old line of basic Super 120s wool suiting.)
One benefit to the newer suiting: J.Crew has extended its size range to include 0-24, as well as a smaller range for petites and tall sizes.
Lands’ End
Lands’ End suiting section has been in flux of late, but they usually have their washable wool suiting in stock.
The fabric is a blend of polyester, wool, and spandex, and it’s machine washable. As they describe it, “the slightly stretchy, easy-care fabric [is] ideal for travel too. It’ll bounce back after being packed in a garment bag, and never needs a trip to the cleaners — just wash and dry.”
The suits come in regular, petite, tall, and plus sizes in sedate colors.
Argent
Unlike a lot of the brands we’ve mentioned, Argent’s seasonless suiting line includes a lot of bright, saturated colors.
The brand is available in sizes 0-14, and describes the material as “seasonless wool from Italy, 98% Wool, 2% Elastane.” (The lining is viscose/polyester.)
Sumissura
Bonus mention for Sumissura, which does a lot of bespoke suits, including some in merino wool, wool blends, 4-way stretch, and more. You can choose from among 150+ fabrics, choose the jacket style, then the pants style, and they will make it to your measurements.
Bespoke clothes are awesome, but finding your precise measurements can be tricky, so I would not necessarily advise a newbie to give this a try. But if you know your measurements and are up for the adventure of ordering bespoke suits online, go for it!
