“Food with a long journey is definitely banned from our kitchen.” [source]

This is the philosophy that guides Mast Weinbistro, a farm to table restaurant that very much emphasizes seasonality and locality. I first discovered Mast Weinbistro through the Michelin guide, where it boasts a Michelin Bib Gourmande designation and also Green Star.

They offer a very reasonably priced lunch menu (main courses are around 20 EUROS), while during dinner you can get a 6 course chef’s choice menu (85 EUROS) plus wine pairing (5 glasses for 55 EUROS).

You can also order a la carte instead. Since it was lunchtime, and I was dining solo, I opted for choosing a few a la carte items from the dinner menu. (It had more choices than the limited lunch menu.)

Bread + Beets

I started with the ¼ loaf of (delicious) crusty bread + raw milk butter (6 EUROS). This was followed by a lite started comprised of a variety of beets, mustard seed, herbs, and dollops of cream.

Hamachi + Cucumber

Next was another refreshing starter of raw hamachi (yellowtail), thinly sliced cucumbers, and a refreshing green jus.

Soup (and more bread . . . )

Finally, I ended with a warm blended pumpkin soup that was served with crunchy croutons.

The meal felt clean, light, healthy, and it was delicious! I did show up a bit late (closer to 1:30PM), so the place was pretty quiet. I am a bit embarrassed to say I did not order any wine, even though I was eating at a wine bar!

All in all, this place make great food, has very reasonable prices, and has a very comfortable ambiance. I can imagine the appeal of coming here after work, ordering some healthy food, and tasting some fun wines. I can totally see why it’s so popular (especially for dinner). In fact, I was only able to book a lunch spot . . .
