Brooklyn-based artist PAULA T (Paula Tartell) shares her debut single ‘Canary’.
PAULA T is a producer, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and political organizer. A former concert pianist, PAULA T steps out of the walls of her bedroom with ‘Canary’. This rising star is inspired by multiple genres such as pop, electronic, punk, rock, folk, noise, R&B, experimental and her classical background.
‘Canary’ is Pandora’s box of chaotic energy fueled by vulnerability. PAULA T touches on unrequited love and fear of rejection on her debut single.
PAULA T shares the following about ‘Canary’:
“‘Canary’ is about a demoralizing pattern I’ve found myself in: dating men afraid to be in love. For me personally, the vulnerability of sharing my art is way more terrifying than falling in love will ever feel. The canary as a symbol is an invocation for people to keep sharing themselves with the universe despite the prospect of rejection.”
‘Canary’ was created alongside Eli Heath (producer, bass guitar, mixing engineer), Jake Ford (electric guitar), and Addie Vogt (drums). PAULA T’s canary costume was created using recycled materials in collaboration with Nikolai Mishler (YES theater).
