10 Ways to Take Care of You in 2020
The world is so crazy right now. Since the virus spread around the world, the world and the people affected by it seem to be getting crazier every day. If you feel stressed and/or overwhelmed, this is a normal reaction. However, it is important that you be gentle with yourself and the people around you. Here are 10 ways to take care of yourself in 2020. Things you can do to protect your health physically and mentally. Self-care is everything right now!
1. Move your body
We’ve all heard that exercise has such a positive impact on your mental and physical state. Nowadays, gyms are either closed or masks are required during training. I don’t know about you, but attending a yoga class with a mask isn’t for me. So I had to learn to stay active and centered in my own way. There are many ways you can exercise at home via the internet or apps on your phone. If this doesn’t work for you, exercise outdoors, walk, run, bike, swim, go on a paddleboard, etc.
2. Eat healthy
If there’s one thing you can do for your body and mind, it’s to eat a healthy, nutritious diet. Take a little extra time to prepare healthy meals with as many colors of the rainbow as you can find. There are many resources and recipes online. Of course, I recommend eating organic if possible. I have a list of some nutritious foods that you can buy online.
3. Clean your surroundings
A clean and tidy living space is important for the state of mind. One way to keep your surroundings clean is to ensure that your floors are swept and/or vacuumed to prevent dust from accumulating. Make sure there are no dishes piling up in the sink. Keep kitchen and bathroom surfaces clean with a nice-smelling disinfectant spray like I described here. Don’t leave dirty clothes on the floor. Add plants around the home to purify the air, add positive, natural energy and beautify your living space. And any other ways to help your state of mind feel calmer.
4. Practice meditation to calm yourself
There are days when you feel particularly anxious, overwhelmed and stressed. In this case, take 15 minutes to sit quietly and focus on deep breathing. This can help create a sense of calm. Sometimes when I’m really anxious and can’t sit, I grab a broom, sweep, and focus on the task that helps distract me from the overwhelming feelings inside. Sometimes when my anxiety turns into depression, I relax in the water. Hot water really helps relax my mind, body and soul.
5. Take a break from the news
This is one of the best things you can do to get out of a state of fear and anxiety. Between the news and social media, we are bombarded with coronavirus updates, political issues, riots, etc. All of this is a lot for each of us to absorb and process. Leaving fear and trust behind is a good way to find inner peace.
6. Listen to music
Music has an amazing ability to heal and transform your state of being. Put on music that cheers you up and makes you move your body. Choose the genre of music that you can feel deep in your soul.
7. Work on your hobby
Don’t have that craft project you’ve always wanted to do? Or a course you wanted to take online? Or maybe learn a new language? Maybe a musical instrument? Finding creative focus while empowering yourself is a great way to get through difficult times like the ones we are living in.
8. Read a book
Get an uplifting book that will inspire you to get lost in content. This is a great time for us to learn and work on ourselves. The world’s situations force us to live in the now and accept the unknown future. We all have no idea what the future will look like. So why should we give in to the fear of the unknown? The past is the past, there is nothing we can do about it, so living in the now is our only option. Read a book and be here now.
9. Ground yourself in the earth
Take off your shoes, go outside and walk barefoot on the ground. When you walk on Earth, free electrons from Earth are transferred into your body. This supplies our body with antioxidants. It also calms the mind. Plant a garden outside or inside. You can always grow herbs and sprouts on your kitchen counter. Be that as it may, you can connect with the rhythms of the natural world, do it, it really changes the internal flow of energy in the body. Mother Earth has the amazing ability to heal us in so many ways.
10. Seek support
It’s a good idea to know the friends you’d like to open up to. I know it’s difficult to get together these days due to Covid19 restrictions. However, pick up the phone, send a message via text, use Skype, Zoom, etc. Find support and connection with others. If you feel like you’re stuck, you might think about seeking professional help. During this Corona trip, when stores were closed, I was only able to see my therapist via the internet. It helps me that she talks about the madness we live in.
