The $45 Beauty Product Dua Lipa Doesn’t Leave the House Without
Dua Lipa is a force to be reckoned with in the world of pop—and she needs no introduction. While her global acclaim is undeniable, her influence reaches beyond her music. Case in point: she recently took on the role of global makeup ambassador for YSL Beauty in February. In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the 28-year-old Grammy Award winner discussed her relationship with beauty and revealed the must-have products she swears by. Below, we curated key takeaways from the conversation.
On her “lipstick philosophy…”
“I usually love brown tones,” she told Bazaar. “I think those complement my skin tone the best—anything from a nude color to brown and even dark red colors. That’s my spectrum, and I stick to those. What I look for in lipstick is to use it as a multipurpose product, so I love to put a little on my lips. If I’m like running out, I’ll put some on my eyes and cheeks, and I’m done. But also, if I’m not wearing any makeup and I put lipstick on, I feel done up right away. It’s like my lifesaver; I never leave the house without it.” While she didn’t explicitly mention always reaching for the Yves Saint Laurent YSL Loveshine Lip Oil Stick, she has previously mentioned that it’s her go-to in other interviews.
On where she gets beauty inspiration…
“I get my inspiration from the makeup artists that I work with,” she said. “I watch them do my makeup, and then I learn from them, whether it’s Lisa Eldridge, Sam Visser, Katie Jane Hughes, or Mary Phillips. I just watch them all do my makeup and recognize how they did my brows, lips, or bronzer in a specific way. I take a little bit of inspiration from all of them. They’re my makeup mentors, because I’m in safe hands when they do my makeup. They can do my natural glam, but they also love color, sparkle, and dimension—and they just do it so well.”
On her family’s favorite fragrance…
“I think my whole family smells like [YSL’s] Libre. Me, my mum, my sister—we all wear the same perfume, and it’s Libre, because it’s been such a big part of our lives for so long. That’s something that we all have in common. For me, the original is always the one I reach for. I have such strong memories attached to it. Even like before we did the first campaign, I remember smelling the samples as they were deciding the final fragrance. I was like, ‘This is the one.’ So, I’m very attached to it.”
As for her application method? “I do two spritzes on either side and sometimes on my wrist, if I feel like it. I don’t love to smell the fragrance on myself—that’s when you know you’ve gone too far. But I really appreciate it when people tell me I smell good. Less is more.”
