9

Crispy, cheesy, and packed with wholesome goodness, this Chia Seed Cheese Crackers recipe creates a delicious and satisfying snack.

Made with chickpea flour and chia seeds, they’re perfect for nibbling on their own or with your favourite dips.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chickpea flour
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 3–4 tbsp lukewarm water
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • Seasoning, to taste

Optional spices

  • ¼ tsp cumin
  • ¼ tsp paprika

Chia seeds are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, fibre, and plant-based protein, making them a superfood staple. They help support sustained energy and healthy digestion, and add a satisfying crunch to recipes alongside this nutritional boost.

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the chickpea flour to break up any lumps. Stir in nutritional yeast, chia seeds, seasoning, and optional spices.
  3. Add olive oil and 3 tablespoons of water. Mix with a rubber spatula, adding the extra tablespoon if needed. When the dough is hard to stir, lightly oil your hands and knead it into a soft dough.
  4. Place the dough between two lightly oiled pieces of parchment paper. Roll into a 0.5 cm thickness, forming a rectangle. Peel off the top parchment and cut into squares with a pizza wheel.
  5. Transfer the parchment with the crackers onto a baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart. Bake in the centre of the oven for 12–14 minutes until lightly golden and crispy. They will firm up further as they cool.
  6. Store in an airtight container for up to one week.
