I can’t think of a more important time to put thought into your manicure than when you’re going to be photographed holding an award. Sure, your nails don’t matter as much as the reason you’re being honored, but when they’re gripping a trophy, why not make them especially memorable to go with the occasion? That’s exactly what Chappell Roan just did at the Resonator Awards.

The singer-songwriter attended the Los Angeles ceremony honoring creators in music as a warm-up to Grammy weekend, and she received the Harmonizer Award for her impact on social change. Styled by Genesis Webb in a black, beaded Xi Scorpii corset and sheer, lacy skirt, Roan couldn’t have looked more goth-gorgeous. And her manicure played a major role in the dark romance vibe.

Nail artist Rachel Sun created an incredible effect that echoed the look of the elaborate corset. She coated Aprés Natural Square Short Gel-X Tips with Aprés Gel Couleur in Midnight Shadow, a sheer black. She then added Aprés Astral Gel Couleur in Trine, a beige cat-eye polish, which was magnetized for an aura effect. After a top coat, Sun added asymmetrical groupings of rhinestones, jewels, sequins, and caviar beads for a truly otherworldly outcome.
