My stretchy, comfortable wide-leg jeans have been a staple in my closet for years, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. For Fall 2025, though, I’m styling them a little differently… mixing in a few new pieces that make my everyday denim feel surprisingly modern.

I’ve been experimenting with two on-trend jacket styles and western boots with my wide-leg jeans lately, and the combo completely changes the vibe. Suddenly my go-to, worn-forever jeans feel fresh again. What I love about all of these pieces is how they bring new energy to my casual outfits without taking away from that classic style I love.
The result feels current but still totally me.

Two Fall Outfit Formulas for Wide-Leg Jeans (On-Trend But Still Classic)
If you’re looking for fall outfit ideas, here are two outfit formulas I keep coming back to that have an overall polished vibe but still feel current for Fall 2025. Both start with my go-to MOTHER wide-leg jeans paired with classic closet staples, then mix in a few exciting new pieces from there.
Outfit Formula #1: Wide-Leg Jeans + Swingy Denim Jacket + Western Boots + Statement Bag

First up… this absolutely head-turning denim jacket from Frame. The swingy yet structured shape is everything.
I can’t say enough good things about this outfit-making jacket. You can throw it on over the most basic of basics and instantly feel more stylish. It still has that casual vibe (I mean…it is technically just a denim jacket), but the boxy fit, swingy shape, bell sleeves, and perfectly placed patch pockets give it a totally low-key stylish look that’s anything but boring.

I especially love it layered over a plaid button-down to break up the denim-on-denim and add a little extra texture.

And to finish the look? Suede western-inspired boots from Rag & Bone and an oh-so-fun statement bag from A.L.C. If the bag is in your budget, it’s annoyingly perfect and way more versatile than it looks. It’s equally as chic with sweatpants and a hoodie as it is with an evening gown.
Outfit Formula #2: Wide-Leg Jeans + Cropped Plaid Jacket + Western Boots + Structured Bag

Next up is the outfit formula built around one of the biggest and most wearable trends right now: the plaid jacket.
My version happens to be cropped (from Rails), but there are so many good options that pair beautifully with wide-leg jeans—from cozy oversized styles to this cropped belted trench style (both from Favorite Daughter). It’s an easy way to make a classic fall outfit feel instantly fresh.

I like pairing this plaid jacket with a boxy bag that has clean lines and a little structure, since the shape gives the outfit a bit more edge. The Maude line from Staud has such an incredible selection right now with cool, interesting shapes in different proportions.

So my wide-leg jeans may be the hardest-working classic piece in my outfit formulas, but ummmmm… can we go ahead and zoom in on those cuffs on this shirt? So cool, right? And the feminine shoulders, interesting colorway, and just a touch of metallic threading… this shirt is REALLY good.
A Go-To Crop Black Sweater
Scotti and Shana also have and love this go-to cotton sweater. Just the right length to hit below the top of my jeans for a cropped (but not showing my belly) fit, the cotton is luxuriously soft, and the not-too-oversized roll-neck collar and seam detailing down the back are added bonuses.
Walkable Suede Western Boots
You’ve seen these western-inspired boots peeking out underneath the jeans in all the photos, but they truly deserve a special shout-out. Simple, yes… but these boots have serious presence. And I’m not exaggerating when I say they make every outfit just…better. The rich brown suede is gorgeous, the toe isn’t too pointy (I can’t do a true pointy toe), and the heel gives me some height, but still feels totally walkable.
