What I Wore In Ireland: 5 Cute Outfits For Rainy Days
Ireland in June was exactly what you’d imagine: lush, moody, randomly sunny, and very, very damp. Rain jackets, rain boots, and (ugly) umbrellas were worn daily – and absolutely non-negotiable. So I leaned into it.
I asked in our TME Discord Chat what to expect for a trip to Ireland in early June – and was told that if I pack a bunch of sundresses, it’ll basically be a waste of suitcase space. THANK GOD I listened. I did however pack a linen mini dress (it was a summer vacation, after all) and rest assured; it stayed rolled up in my packing cube. Ha.
We packed so much into this trip: countryside walks, cliffside drives, beaches, harbors, (of course) all the pubs, and a Dublin date night I’m still thinking about (and will be forever).
I kept things light but layered, focusing on pieces that worked well in wind and rain. Think: two cute, hardworking coats, practical water-resistant shoes that even work with dresses, and light tops that don’t wrinkle too much in a suitcase. The vibe was easy, intentional, and most of all: dry-ish.
So if you’re wondering what to wear in Ireland in June, here are 5 easy, cute outfits that worked for everything from Dublin to the Cliffs of Moher to…. a really epic beach day.
By the way, just bring your own umbrellas. My ENTIRE family somehow seemed to forget – so we had to buy six really bad (and not cute) ones.
A Trip To Howth: Overalls + Hunter Boots
This was my favorite outfit of the trip. It gave utility-meets-girly-meets- English Irish countryside fisherman’s granddaughter. Hahaha you feel me?

And it worked simply perfectly for getting poured-on while walking the harbor then grabbing a nice brunch to warm up with. A closer pic…

Galway Day + Cliffs Of Moher: Shockingly, A Linen Dress
Yes, I did indeed wear a long linen dress to the cliffs of Moher – and it was perfect. I will say, it was my second time there so I knew what I was getting myself into. Crazy move but it worked out kind of flawlessly?

It was misty but 70 degrees – and these almost-rugged Salomon sneakers + a light cotton sweater thrown on over were just fab. And I felt like I was in some kind of Irish take on The Sound Of Music, so.
Dublin + Bray: Gingham Jacket + Denim Dress
Gingham and I are obviously pretty tight (and I couldn’t hold back from that Gap x Doen collab a couple months ago). But the print just works with everything! It’s not too loud nor too boring, and because it’s in white & navy it really does match it all.

This outfit looked even better with a Temple Bar Guinness in my hand. Just saying.
I must say, this denim dress that I picked up from H&M last spring has been such a wardrobe workhorse. I’ve dressed it up and down, packed it on countless trips, worn it for long days + nights and truly can’t see myself getting sick of it. It just works, always – I think due to the sleeves + wash. It’s sadly sold out, but here are a few similar ones I’d happily switch it out for:
Dodging Rain & Getting Engaged?!? In Just…Jeans
Haha ignore the face I’m making in this pic – it’s unfortunately the only one I have in the outfit. But it really gives rainy day with those little droplets!! I was in just a simple tee & jeans. Nothin’ crazy but worth a mention because it felt juuust cute enough.

Oh and then my boyfriend surprised me on a Killiney Beach and proposed to me. YEAH, THAT HAPPENED. ?!?! I’ll never be over it. Ever. I was sporting the same baggy black wash Levi’s and (thank god) a cute girly top. If only I chose a dress for this day. *rolls eyes*

Bonus: My Shockingly Great Airport Outfit
Did TSA pat down my overall buckles? Yes. Was I more comfortable than I am in joggers? Also yes. (These are oversized on me so verrry loose in the waist – but the straps hold them up perfectly!) I wore this flying out of Dublin and felt 20% cuter than my airport usual.

This is my favorite cotton sweater, by the way. Sonderhaus makes some knitted magic.
The 3 Rain Boots I Swear By
If you’re packing for a rainy trip (or just updating your old boots), invest in a good pair of rain boots that actually look good with outfits. I wore all three of these this past year – and they made me love the rain. Kind of.
Hunter short | Hunter tall | Barbour Banbury
And a quick shoutout to our Airbnb in Sandymount – it was perhaps my favorite EVER. Find it here. Oh, and rain boots even work as coffee-in-the-garden-wear, BTW. 😉
