Watch Amanda Seyfried & Sydney Sweeney Spill Secrets After Sipping the Truth Serum | Truth Serum
I can’t show you my call log.
Then you’ll really know what man’s
supposed to make the headlines.
Hi, Allure, I’m Amanda Seyfried.
And I’m Sydney Sweeney,
and this is Truth Serum.
[soft suspensive music]
Oh.
Hm.
I can handle.
Yeah, I think we’re good.
Cheers.
Cheers.
[soft suspensive music]
Oh.
Oh.
The truth is…
Is tangy.
What is one beauty rumor about yourself
that you want to debunk right now?
Go, girl.
What’s one beauty rumor?
I want to…
Let’s debunk them all.
I mean, I have never gotten a work done.
I am so scared of needles,
you have no idea.
But it’s really effective once you
get older, I’m telling you right now.
I am too scared of needles.
I just- You guys,
you cannot compare a photo of me
from when I was 12 to a photo of me
at 26th with professional makeup and lighting.
Of course, I’m gonna look different!
Everybody on social media is insane.
When you do, I’ll call you.
You gotta call me and I’ll give you
a little bit of Ativan and you’ll be so excited.
But you don’t need it yet.
No, also, if I did, you guys,
my face would be even.
[soft suspensive music]
Not necessarily
No? What do you mean even?
Oh, like, one eyelid opens a
little more than the other.
When I was younger I had a wakeboarding accident
right here and I got 19 stitches.
So I feel like it pulls like my eye
just a little differently than the other.
I still don’t see it, but there’s an art to it.
You can’t just get it everywhere like
a lot of people do.
Yeah, you can just like…
You don’t need it. No.
Do you have a tattoo? If so, where and what?
It’s just on my foot.
It says Minge, just like, my nickname.
And it does mean like genitalia in English,
like a British slang.
But it was a long time ago
and it was…
It’s actually a name
my girlfriends and I call each other
and it’s- Your girlfriends
call you genitalia? Minge, yeah.
It’s like my Instagram handle. [Syndey laughing]
It’s like a… Yeah.
Mingey.
Mingey, yeah.
It’s like a term of endearment.
It’s turned into that.
And it was from Mamma Mia 1.
We all have it.
The girls, you know, Ali, Lisa and Sophie.
We all have the tattoo on our feet.
It’s so silly.
Ooh, I love that!
I know.
So no judgment, are looks important
to you when dating someone?
I mean, I’d like a well kept man.
That’s…
Over.
That’s tall and handsome and with beautiful eyes
and big arms and hands, and…
[Syndey laughing]
But then like the personality’s not good?
Then he is not attractive.
Exactly. Yeah.
But like it’s all, it’s the whole thing.
But it’s…
You could be like the hottest man ever,
if you have a shit personality, done.
[buzzer rings]
If you let your ego rule the day.
Done. You’re a loser.
If you have a great personality…
You win.
You’re pretty good.
Put sunglasses on, you’re great.
[both laughing]
What is the grossest thing you’ve ever done
in the name of beauty?
[soft suspensive music]
Drink some more. Tell us the truth.
I mean,
I think it’s pretty gross in general.
To have to slough off your
hard skin on your toes, and on your heels and…
What?
And the mess that you make when you do it.
Wait, what’s this?
You know, when you like wear shoes like
in the summer when you wear your crocs too much
and you get like manure trapped in like
in your skin and in your toenails.
And so like you have to soak your feet
and then you have to like slough off
with that thing that sloughs off dead skin.
And then the skin’s like kinda like poopy.
And then you have to like, you know,
just trimming your nails, your toenails,
I think you drank too much truth serum now.
Yeah. It’s just gross.
It’s actual literal shit.
She actually lives on a farm.
I do.
And I’m very active on my farm when I’m home.
Blonde or brunette.
How do you personally prefer to wear your hair?
Blonde!
Blonde? I actually
just went blonder.
It’s inspired by The Housemaid.
It looks so pretty! What about you?
What’s your preference?
I don’t know.
‘Cause what do you consider this?
Blonde.
See I consider this brunette.
No way. No way!
That’s blonde.
You’ve got like an ombre kind of ombre.
That’s blonde. Oh, wow.
That’s like honey.
Honey.
Dirty blonde.
No, I don’t think that’s dirty blonde.
No?
I would consider you blonde.
I like being blonde.
Yeah.
I mean the Cassie blonde.
Cassie blonde I love!
But when it was the first two seasons
when I was dyeing my hair Cassie blonde,
it was just coming out so I had to stop.
So now I’m letting my natural hair grow.
You gotta give it a break.
[Syndey] I know.
Beauty is hard, but also like
wigs are really great.
Wigs are amazing.
May I have a refill please?
You were drinking this truth serum.
[soft suspensive music]
Were you ever offered a role that offended you?
Ooh. Mm-hm.
[Syndey chuckles]
So many, in fact.
I can’t even like tell you specifically
what it was, but after I played Karen
in Mean Girls, it was basically like
the bimbo, which is what Hollywood does.
I get it. They do that.
It’s fine. They do that.
And we just wanted to work.
So I had to be like very careful
that I didn’t take too many jobs
that were the same.
Yep. And instead
do things that showed range and you know,
it’s the challenge of like kind of
being a woman in Hollywood,
but also just like the first thing you play
people always see that first and it’s just like…
Can’t change their minds.
Yeah. Yeah.
So that said, we both play iconic
high school characters.
What advice would Karen and Cassie
give to your high school self?
Oh, my goodness.
I don’t know if I’d wanna take advice from Cassie.
I don’t think I would take advice
from Cassie, to be honest.
I mean, Cassie was way more confident
with her self image than I was in high school.
So maybe something like that.
Yeah. But I don’t know
if I would.
I mean that’s just, it’s good to see.
Yeah.
What about Karen?
I think the only kind of advice
you can take from her is that she lives in the present.
[Syndey laughing]
You know?
What is the wildest beauty transformation
you’ve ever done for a role?
Tricky. Always forget everything.
Ooh! Oh, God.
I actually played someone who was going
through chemo and there’s a lot of skin makeup.
It was prosthetics.
And that’s just tricky to see
when you look in the mirror,
’cause it’s like one of my biggest fears
and it was really hard for my husband to see it.
I have to remember that I’m not going through this.
What’s the biggest beauty transformation
that you’ve had to go through for a movie?
I’ve transformed myself for Christy quite a bit.
How long did it take?
I had like two and a half, three months
to train and gain weight.
And then I had to keep it on
for like the entirety of the film.
So top of July until Thanksgiving.
Did you have to like wake up
at 4 A.M and eat chicken?
No. Okay.
So when I was filming I’d have
like different wigs for the different eras
and then I had brown contacts in.
It’s very different.
I did contacts once, brown contacts,
and looking in the mirror is really…
It’s crazy. Yeah.
It really helps.
It’s not just shoes or costumes.
It’s like when you get to that level
of specificity, it’s really helpful.
Yeah.
Okay.
What character of yours are you most like IRL?
Ooh.
[soft suspensive music]
[Sydney sighs]
I dunno!
I honestly feel like…
I mean, Christy and I are vastly different
in a lot of ways, but I learned so much
about myself when I was playing Christy.
We’re both very driven and strong-willed
and like, she fought her own fights
and battles within the ring and outside the ring.
I feel like metaphorically I have
that going on in my life as well.
So honestly, I think Christy.
Yeah. Word.
It’s true.
What about you?
I mean, in some ways Sophie from Mamma Mia
is like, I also think at that point in my life,
it was the first time I’d ever like
really gone away and done something on my own.
And I think that same thing happened
and so many of my friends are from
that moment in my life.
But also, she’s so optimistic and like
excited about people and connecting people
and like socializing and she’s nuts too.
So I just feel like we’re very similar.
What’s one on-set habit you wish you could break?
I just wish I would stop eating all the time.
I need to do meals between every shot.
I’m like looking for the food
and I don’t eat a lot of it.
I’ve just…
It’s all I think about.
I mean, we’re walking from room to room today.
We’re eating cookies in our hands as we walk.
But at least people are giving it to us.
I have to like search out
the service table all the time.
And it’s just one of those things
that I get really addicted to.
And it’s just like, if I just ate a meal,
I would focus more on my work.
But I like to snack.
When it comes to acting, do you prefer
playing the hero or the villain?
The villain.
I think it’s more complicated
and it’s more challenging.
And I always love trying to find ways
to humanize characters that people
might have a hard time finding empathy for
and then they start to question why
they have empathy for this character,
that could be morally complicated.
Right. Yeah.
That’s the truth.
Same. Yeah.
It’s exactly the same.
It’s like you challenge yourself,
you challenge the audience,
you play around in the middle.
It’s way more fun.
[Director] And you both do that in this film.
Yes, we do. We do.
Let’s keep going.
