Tom Brady’s memorabilia and personal possessions brought in $9 million at a Sotheby’s auction on Tuesday, with the retired New England Patriots quarterback’s watches alone going for $4.6 million. All 41 lots in the GOAT Collection: Watches & Treasures From Tom Brady auction sold, with many surpassing their high estimates.
The event’s top earner was a rare Rolex Daytona Paul Newman “John Player Special,” which achieved $1.1 million, exceeding its $900,000 upper estimate. Brady was first spotted wearing this watch at a halftime ceremony early in the 2023 season when team owner Robert Kraft announced that Brady would be inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame.
An Audemars Piguet Royal Oak with Brady’s name and the Roman numeral VII (for his seven Super Bowl wins) set in diamonds, in place of hour markers, garnered $720,000. Brady wore this timepiece, with a salmon-colored dial and diamond-set bezel, during his Netflix roast earlier this year.
Watches aside, a notable sale was $729,000 for the jersey Brady wore for his final college football game. It had been expected to sell for $300,000 to $500,000. More than 800 participants vied for Brady items in the auction, according to Sotheby’s.
“It has been a once-in-a-lifetime privilege for all of us at Sotheby’s to celebrate the legend that is Tom Brady,” said Richard Lopez, the auction house’s senior specialist of watches, in a statement. “To have had the opportunity to work directly with him, showcasing some of his most prized possessions from his football career, as well as a collection of watches that have been a meaningful part of his personal journey—pieces he loved and lived with—has been truly unforgettable.”
