        Acharya Sushruta has explained treatment of Mukhamandika Graham in chapter 35 of Uttara Tantra

        For Parisechana – Kapitthadi Sadhita Jala – water processed with Kapittha, Bilva, Tarkari, Gandharvahasta and Kuberakshi

        For Taila to be used for abhyanga / seka – Bhrnga Vrkshadi Taila – oil prepared with juice of Bringa Vrikshas like Bilva etc, Ajagandha, Harigandha and Vasa.

        For Ghrta given for drinking purpose – Madhulikadi Ghrta – ghee prepared with Madhulika, Paya, Tugakshiri, Madhura Gana and Hrsva Panchamula.

        For Dhupana – Vacha, Sarjarasa and Kustha are added with ghee.

        For Dharana – tongue of casa bird, ciralli bird and snake.

        For Bali – should be given in Gostha Madhya (cow den) with – Varnaka, Curpaka, garlands, flowers, Anjana, Parada, Manasshila, Payasa and Purodasa.

        For Snana and Puja – Water sanctified with sacred hymns.

        Description of Mukhamandika – adorned with ornaments, beautiful and pleasing to look at, can take any form and always resides in the cow-pen.

The 33rd chapter of Uttaratantra of Sushruta Samhita is named as Mukhamandika Graha Pratişedha Adhyaya. This chapter deals with the Treatment of Mukhamandika Graha.  

अथातो मुखमण्डिकाप्रतिषेधं व्याख्यास्यामः ||१||
यथोवाच भगवान् धन्वन्तरिः ||२||

We will now expound the Mukhamaṇḍikā graham pratiṣedha – treatment of child seized by Mukhamaṇḍikā; as revealed by the venerable Dhañvañtari.

 Parisecana, Taila

कपित्थबिल्वतर्कारीवांशीगन्धर्वहस्तकाः |
कुबेराक्षी  योज्याः स्युर्बालानां परिषेचने ||३||
स्वरसैर्भृङ्गवृक्षाणां तथाऽजहरिगन्धयोः |
तैलं वसां  संयोज्य पचेदभ्यञ्जने शिशोः ||४||

Parisecana – Water for bathing / showering the child afflicted by Mukhamandika Graha should be boiled and prepared with the below mentioned herbs –

        Kapittha,

        Bilva,

        Tarkāri,

        Gañdharvahasta, and

        Kuberāksī

Taila – Oil should be prepared with the below mentioned ingredients –

        Fresh juice of leaves of Bhrnga Vrkshas – trees which mitigate vata, like Bilva etc, Ajagandha, Harigandha and

        Vasa – muscle fat

This oil is used for anointing / giving massages to the body of the child afflicted by Mukhamandika Graha.

Ghrta, Dharana, Dhupana

मधूलिकायां पयसि तुगाक्षीर्यां गणे तथा |
मधुरे पञ्चमूले  कनीयसि घृतं पचेत् ||५||
वचा सर्जरसः कुष्ठं सर्पिश्चोद्धूपनं हितम् |
धारयेदपि जिह्वाश्च चाषचीरल्लिसर्पजाः ||६||

Ghrta – Ghee prepared with the below mentioned ingredients should be given for drinking / licking for the child –

        Madhulika

        Paya – milk

        Tugakshiri,

        Madhura Gana / Kakolyadi Gana group of herbs

        Hrsva Pancamula

Dhupana – Fumigation should be administered with Vacā, Sarjarasa, and Kustha added with ghee.

Dharana – Amulets in the form of tongue of casa bird, ciralli bird and snake should be tied on the body of the child.

वर्णकं चूर्णकं माल्यमञ्जनं पारदं तथा |
मनःशिलां चोपहरेद्गोष्ठमध्ये बलिं तथा ||७||
पायसं सपुरोडाशं बल्यर्थमुपसंहरेत् |
मन्त्रपूताभिरद्भिश्च तत्रैव स्नपनं हितम् ||८||
अलङ्कृता रूपवती सुभगा कामरूपिणी |
गोष्ठमध्यालयरता पातु त्वां मुखमण्डिका ||९||

Bali – Oblation should be given with the below mentioned ingredients and shall be offered in goshta Madhya i.e. cow pen –

        Varnaka (kampillaka),

        Cürpaka (lime stone),

        Garlands,

        Flowers,

        Anjana

        Parada – mercury

        Manassila

        Payasa – milk pudding

        Purodasa – pancake

Snana and Puja – Water sanctified with sacred hymns is used to bathe the child there itself i.e. in the cow pen. Later, prayers to please Goddess Mukhamandika should be offered as – “Goddess Mukhamandika, you are adorned with ornaments. You are beautiful and pleasing to look at. You have the capacity to take any form that you wish and you always like to reside in the cow-pen. Please protect the child.’

इति श्री सुसुतसंहितायामुत्तरतन्त्रान्तर्गत कुमारतन्त्रे मुखमण्डिकाप्रतिषेधोनाम (नवमोऽध्यायः, आदितः) पञ्चत्रिंशत्तमोऽध्यायः।।३५।।

Thus ends the thirty-fifth chapter by name Mukhamandika Pratişedha in Uttara Sthana of Susruta Samhita.
