Styling Stockings. – The Stripe

dress, tights, shoes, similar bag

I have been so intrigued by all of the fun stockings (especially fun colors!) out there right now, but if I am being honest . . . anything besides sheer or opaque (black) tights feels really intimidating!

I wanted to embrace the trend but started slowly. I bought these shimmery gold tights (in the first look below) to wear to holiday parties (they were a hit!) and the above pair of wine-colored tights. Both felt like a small step out of my comfort zone without getting too wild. What I love about tights like these is that they are an incredible way to breathe new life into pieces you already have!

Unrelated to the tights, Aligne has quickly become a favorite brand. Their pieces are on trend without being trendy, and the prices are always good. I find their sizing to be very true to size. This denim mini dress was an instant favorite. I paired them with my Caron Callahan platform sandals and really like the combination!

PS – you might find my Sheertex review helpful; I really love this brand!

Fun stockings, Six ways.

This look is probably my favorite. It’s sophisticated and polished, but the gold tights feel very fresh and fun . . . pairing them with a fresh black “canvas” is the way to go! I wore these gold tights a lot over the holiday season, always with black. An old La Ligne dress with a slit (similar in feel to the Ulla Johnson dress we featured), a mod mini with black platforms. If you wear a lot of black dresses, these are a fun way to update them.

This look is just a little bit preppy, but it feels very easy and approachable. This pointelle tee from Donni is a favorite (I size up and just bought a second one), and it looks great peeking out from under a sweater. You could also opt to knot the sweater at your waist or over the shoulders.

Sheer black stockings are easy–nothing intimidating or fancy here. But I love them paired with this fun La Double J dress, and burgundy accents feel just a little bit unexpected.

There are loads of ways to wear burgundy stockings. Burgundy is just a step down from black, so it feels approachable. I personally like them a lot with a tonal heel (as seen here!). I really love that the tights and the shoes are the same color; it creates one long lean line.

I love black opaque tights–they make your legs look miles long! This look feels fresh and fun — the skirt feels a little bit schoolgirl to me and the slightly cropped sweater is cozy and modern! The bean barrette adds a funky finishing touch!
