Monastery Deep Red LED Mask Review

Back in December, Monastery offered to send over their Deep Red At Home LED Mask. I was a little bit skeptical, to be honest. There are so many LED masks out there, but I only have so much space, and I didn’t really want to accept an expensive gift (there are always strings attached to these types of gifts!). Besides, I already had my Therabody LED mask.
I explained this much to the brand rep, and she assured me that it was a gift with no strings attached, that I wasn’t required to post, and that it was different from other LED masks as it’s actually the first LED mask to utilize deep red light, which penetrates deeper into the skin. When you get a professional facial, if they use red light, it’s likely deep red light. However, this stronger, more powerful technology is typically reserved for spas, not for use at home.
Now that piqued my attention. I accepted the gift, and since December, I’ve used it most days for 5-10 minutes, depending on my schedule. I really believe these sorts of devices require long-term use to make a difference, which is why I waited more than 5 months to write a review. And while I was gifted this product, I was not required to post about it. This is not a sponsored post!
Monastery Deep Red At Home LED Mask review
About Monastery
Monastery, if you’re not familiar, is a spa headquartered in California, and all of their skincare products are made in-house. The three treatment spa rooms alone look worth a trip to San Francisco.
The brand’s founder, Athena Hewett, is a master esthetician with 20 years of study and training. Monastery’s skincare line was born out of her frustrations as she saw firsthand that many skincare products were making her clients’ problems worse. I have tried almost all of the products and love them. My favorites are the rose cleansing oil, the gold botanical serum, and the lapis body oil. Each one is more luxurious than the next. Think ultra-rich, emollient products that blend science and nature.
Why is this LED Mask Different?
The Monastery Deep Red At Home LED Mask emerged from Athena and her team’s desire to find the best LED mask for use in their own spa treatments. It utilizes the deepest-colored bulbs on the market. These bulbs have a rich burgundy hue, unlike the orange-red tones found in other LED devices. This deeper red light penetrates deeper into the skin (around 5-10mm), compared to shorter red wavelengths, so it reaches the dermis and even the subcutaneous layers.
What does it do?
With continued use, deep red light stimulates collagen production, reduces fine lines, improves circulation, and helps calm inflammation, all while rejuvenating your skin from within. It promotes cellular turnover with professional-grade efficiency.
It’s particularly beneficial for promoting skin healing at a deeper level than standard red light. It is one of the strongest and safest tools you can use at home to experience the benefits of professional-grade light therapy.
The benefits I’ve noticed
I’ve used this nearly every day since I got it. I’ve created a habit (I love James Clear’s “habit stacking” advice) and stack it with my shower as a special little ritual. I’ll have a shower, dry off, and sit in my towel (in bed, lol) for five minutes with this on. If I have enough time, I’ll do it for ten minutes. I really like the ritual.
I will be honest: it’s very hard to gauge if something is building collagen (after all, this is all about preventing aging, rather than reversing it!), but I have noticed that my skin is definitely much glowier and firmer. And weirdly, the light puts me in a good mood. I showed it to my facialist, and she agreed that this one is “bringing out the big guns” vs. other at-home LED masks. Deep red light is clinically proven to stimulate collagen production and reduce fine lines, so I am keeping the faith. I use it every day, hopefully to slow down the aging process.
Is it worth the money?
After using this (and comparing it to other LED masks I’ve tried, including Dennis Gross, HigherDose, and Therabody), I would say absolutely yes. LED masks are expensive to begin with. I hate to say it, but you get what you pay for. A high-quality LED mask will run $400-$ 500. (Sidebar: please don’t fall for those Instagram ads with $100-200 products; they are generally junk.) In my opinion, spending $200-$300 more for a spa-quality deep red light mask is absolutely worth it. If you plan on using it every day, you’ll get your money’s worth. This product was gifted to me to try, but having used it for as long as I have, I would absolutely purchase it with my own money.
P.S. – The Therabody mask, which I still love and recommend now, is in LA, so I can use it LED feature when I’m out there!
