I’ve said it before…when I don’t know what to wear or aren’t inspired I head to Anthropologie. It seems like it’s typically this time of year I need to do this, too. Late summer is a tough season to know what to wear…we’re probably tired of our summer wardrobes a bit (especially if you’re a fall gal like me) but it’s still warm and yet we want some inspo for the season ahead.
I was feeling some kind of way the other day about all this, so I headed to my closest (and prettiest) Anthro location for a little try-on. I got sucked in per usual by the pieces in the front of the store like Pilcro and Maeve denim and some sporty pieces from the same brands. But I also made my way up to the Daily Practice section and tried a few things there. I so wish I had seen this freaking adorable polo in my store that I now need and want to try to style for fall. Gah. Cute! More below.
Anthropologie Try-On: Late Summer to Fall Outfits, Denim & Sporty Favorites

I walked into my store and it was denim galore…and so much sporty collegiate vibes stuff. So fun. I think they were moving things around between seasons, but there was still plenty to peruse and try-on. I got carried away by the casual sporty stuff but that surprises no one I’m sure.
Had I known what a colorful mix Anthropologie has right now I might have worn different shoes, but alas, I was excited about my new adidas SL-72’s in this gorgeous blue. They’re actually pretty fun with most of the pieces I tried on, but IF you’re more of a neutral peep, I am also LOVING my adidas Spezials in cream + black and they’d pair beautifully with a lot of this stuff, too.

My Anthropologie Try-On Hits
My Sizing Details: As a little reminder, I’m 5’4″ with a 34DD bust, typically an 8 in clothing and 29 in non-stretch denim.
1 | Pilcro High Rise Carpenter Barrel Jeans

Fit & Notes: These jeans are so great. I love love them. They’re a cool shape, an updated wash and the pinstripes give them a trouser vibe I love. They do run big. I am typically a 29 in most pants/jeans these days and could definitely have sized down. The cuffs are tacked just FYI so they do stay in place. I meant to style them with another top but gah, guys, I get so hot trying stuff on I forgot lol. They didn’t have a 28 in store but I will be ordering!
*Also of note, I couldn’t really find any cropped boxy tees in my store and I’m realizing how much more I like those on my frame with any type of pants these days. I’m just too short in the torso for regular length tees and this try-on confirmed it. You’ll see more of this later in The Misses section.

Fit & Notes: This dress was such a cute find. I am a sporty gal through and through when it comes to clothing and it’s the perfect mix of easy, casual and a little hint of sexy with that leg slit…which also makes it way more comfortable to walk in. The fit was a little oversized in the top, but it goes in at the waist for a more flattering cut than if it were a ‘true’ t-shirt dress. I love it. I could have probably gone with the Petite had I seen it in store, but it might have been too short (I hover on the very edge of not being able to wear most Petite sizes.)

3 | The Colette Crop Wide Leg Jeans

Fit & Notes: The Colette pants and jeans from Anthro are one of my absolute favorites to wear. I have them in black and a leopard print and I pretty much need a denim pair now, too. I want them in all the fabrics and colors. I’m pretty sure this wash I found in store is the Palms Wash when you click through. It’s such a great blue and easy to wear now and into the fall. I find sizing to be true to size on these, since I have a straighter midsection. If you have a narrower waist you could probably size down one.

4 | Pilcro Rylan Relaxed High Rise Flare Jeans

Fit & Notes: This is one instance where I did go with Petite sizing. Full length jeans, especially in a shape like these tend to fit me best in Petite. Sometimes. These are so cute and well made and I adore a white jean for any time of year. Good pairs are hard to find and I really liked these. I’d pair them with taupe boots and a brown sweater or jacket for fall.

5 | Maeve Ruffle Sleeve Romper
Fit & Details: You guys. This isn’t something I’d normally grab but the tomato red. It got me. I thought it was a dress and I would just ‘see how it looked’ but it’s a romper. And. It’s so freaking cute. I think the ruffles are just a tiny bit much for me at the shoulders, but gah I felt awesome in it. I did size up to a Large because of my straighter midsection/wide rib cage. The fabric has some stretch but stuff like this never fits me through the bodice and sizing up was perfect. I wish I had realized I could have unbuttoned a few of the buttons to show a little V at the neckline (like on the model) and I think I would have liked it even better.

The Misses

Fit Notes: Ok, so don’t get me wrong. This piece seems really cute. And unique. I would usually be all about this. That’s why I grabbed it. But then I put it on. And…it’s just tricky to style. It seems like it looks best with a tank or short sleeve underneath but that’s not how I would want to wear it. Maybe the white/blue stripe shirt is just too much contrast and it needs a darker sweater/shirt with it? Idk. It’s fun and worth a try but just too much of a cape shape for my liking.

Fit & Notes: So I DO like these sweatpants…but I don’t like them with shoes? (See them on the model without shoes.) Which makes them only really ‘cute’ IMO for at home. Idk. The shape seems good but then I just felt like something was off with sneakers on. Maybe Ugg minis would look good? Or high tops? They were comfy and have interesting details especially for sweatpants, but they weren’t great.

Fit & Notes: Ok so here’s another example of a really cute fun pant…but just not quite right on me. I do love these, but I think they’d be a bit tricky to style. I feel like a more neutral color, since they have the ties, etc. might be a better investment. But these are fun. They are lightweight, too, and soft and not swishy sounding fabric. The ties kinda came untied a little easily though, so that would be annoying. Fit was TTS though.
