Explore Humboldt Park and Celebrate Puerto Rican Culture. Chicagoans meet Alma of PBS’s Alma’s Way on Saturday, September 20.
Escucha, Rebelles! Alma from PBS’s Alma’s Way will be at the Humboldt Park Fieldhouse (1440 N. Humboldt Boulevard) on Saturday, September 20, from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm. So grab your bambinos and their chanclas because this is their chance to meet Gen Alpha’s “Puerto Rican Princess”!
This event is free and features family-friendly activities, including creating a community mural, learning Bomba and Double Dutch, testing baseball and boxing skills, and participating in storytime, games, crafts, and sensory-friendly activities.
Throughout the day, attendees can learn about places families can explore across Chicago via public transportation, including Adler Planetarium, Lincoln Park Zoo, Garfield Park Conservatory, Chicago History Museum, Chicago Children’s Theatre, Puerto Rican Cultural Center, and more.
Shout out to WTTW, Fred Rogers Productions, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra, and the Office of the 26th Ward Alderperson Jessie Fuentes for hosting this free Explore Your City event.
“Alma’s story reflects the lived experiences of so many Puerto Rican families in the diaspora, and celebrating her here in Humboldt Park — the cultural heart of Puerto Rican Chicago — is an honor,” said Alderperson Jessie Fuentes.
“Events like Explore Your City reflect our purpose to enrich lives, engage communities, and inspire exploration, encouraging every child and family to discover the world around them. We look forward to celebrating curiosity, culture, and community together in Humboldt Park,” said Tim Russell, WTTW Vice President of Community Engagement.
