Juanda Roberts: Pioneering Luxury and Empowerment in Children’s Hair Care
Hype Hair Magazine Exclusive:
In the ever-evolving beauty industry, few entrepreneurs stand out as true visionaries who blend business acumen with a heartfelt mission. Juanda Roberts, the founder of Princess Hair Pizzazz, is one such leader who has redefined children’s hair care with a commitment to luxury, empowerment, and community.
An Atlanta native with over 20 years of experience in corporate leadership and project management, Roberts made a bold transition from Corporate America to the beauty industry. Armed with a deep passion for nurturing confidence in young girls, she established Princess Hair Pizzazz, a brand that has quickly become a household name in children’s beauty.
With a steadfast commitment to natural hair care, Roberts has cultivated a business that does more than provide services—it fosters self-love, confidence, and a sense of belonging among young clients. Her ability to merge entrepreneurial expertise with social impact has earned her recognition as a trailblazer in the industry.
Beyond her success in beauty, Juanda Roberts has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to community service. She has previously served as the Board Chair of the United Way’s Young Professional Leaders Advisory Board, spearheading initiatives that uplift and empower young professionals. Princess Hair Pizzazz is not just about styling hair—it’s a celebration of beauty, confidence, and culture. The brand offers a variety of kids’ hair care services, ensuring that young girls embrace their natural beauty while experiencing high-quality treatments.
As Roberts expands her influence, she remains devoted to building a legacy of luxury and love in children’s hair care. While Roberts is a powerhouse in the beauty industry, her most cherished roles are those of wife and mother. She shares her life and business journey with her husband and business partner, Leighton Roberts, and is the proud mother of two daughters, Journee and Faith. Her ability to balance entrepreneurship, family, and community impact makes her an inspiring figure for women striving to achieve success on their own terms.
We had the pleasure of speaking with Juanda Roberts to learn more about her journey. Read our conversation below:
HH: What inspired you to transition from Corporate America to opening Princess Hair Pizzazz?
I wanted to create something of my own and finally pursue my entrepreneurial dreams. Additionally, I had children later in life after overcoming infertility. Being able to control my schedule and be an active, present mother was—and still is—extremely important to me.
HH: How did you envision Princess Hair Pizzazz when you first started?
I envisioned it as a luxurious space where all girls, especially brown girls, could feel celebrated while learning about self-care and pampering from an early age. I was inspired to start this business because I struggled with managing my daughter’s hair alongside my many other responsibilities. I wanted to provide a solution for busy moms and dads—a “magic button” to make their lives easier.
HH: How have you managed to grow into four locations within five years?
The key factors behind our rapid growth include:

- Building a capable team that aligns closely with my brand vision.
- Creating solid processes and implementing technology systems to manage operations effectively.
- Practicing targeted financial management by focusing investments on areas that generate the most return, such as resources, marketing, and innovation.
HH: What challenges did you face during the expansion of your business?
There were many challenges, but the top three were:
- Making difficult decisions to part ways with key team members who were not aligned with my brand vision.
- Navigating increased costs post-COVID, particularly salon build-out expenses, which can strain financial management when you are self-funded.
- Adjusting quickly when leadership plans for new salons didn’t pan out as expected, requiring me to devise and implement new strategies on short notice.
HH: How does your motto, “Beautifully You,” shape the customer experience and brand identity?
“Beautifully You” is the foundation of everything we do. Our goal is to ensure every young lady who enters our salon feels confident in her unique beauty—her hair length, texture, and complexion—because it’s exactly how God created her. This belief is reflected in our “Shero Wall,” which features photos of influential African-American women. Each salon showcases this wall to inspire girls, particularly brown girls, to see themselves as capable of achieving anything they set their minds to. Our retail offerings also include unique items designed to celebrate their individuality and beauty.
HH: What role does community engagement play in your business?
Community engagement is a cornerstone of our business. We strive to be an active and supportive part of each community where our salons are located. We frequently provide financial and in-kind donations to local schools and organizations to give back and make a positive impact.
HH: What sets Princess Hair Pizzazz apart from other children’s hair salons?
We stand out because we specifically cater to children, filling a niche in the salon market that many adult-focused salons overlook. I’ve created a luxury salon experience that celebrates children, especially brown girls, in an unmatched way.
“Our salons offer a child-friendly atmosphere with age-appropriate music, shows, and conversations. Beyond hair services, we focus on empowering our young clients with inspiration from our “Shero Wall” and carefully curated retail items that reflect their beauty and potential. We also emphasize healthy hair care using quality products, and we prioritize customer service to ensure every visit is a full, luxurious experience. Princess Hair Pizzazz is not just a salon; it’s a destination that celebrates diversity, beauty, and empowerment while leaving a lasting impact on the lives we touch.”
HH: How has your corporate leadership background influenced the way you run your business?
My corporate leadership background has been instrumental in how I run my business. I approach it as a business, not just a salon. We have a leadership team, regular meetings, established processes and systems, a marketing and PR plan, financial tracking, and career development paths. Running a business requires consistent, intentional focus on key functions—skills I honed during my time in corporate leadership.
HH: What advice would you give to women entrepreneurs balancing business and family life?
My advice is that while you can have it all, you may not be able to have it all at the same time. Depending on the phase of life you’re in, you might need to scale back in one area to prioritize another. For example, avoid planning a major business launch during significant personal events, like having a baby. Additionally, establish clear boundaries between CEO mode and personal mode. Knowing when to turn each on and off is vital for sustainability and balance.
