For Comic-Con in San Diego this year, Anh Co Tran styled Jessica Biel’s hair into effortless Nu Waves. She stepped out with a polished yet relaxed look that carried her through a full day of press interviews and panel appearances to promote her upcoming Apple TV film, Matchbox The Movie.
Here’s a closer look at how Anh created her style.
Step 1: Prepping the Hair
Starting on damp hair, Anh evenly applied two palm-sized amounts of Milbon&’s Monochromatic Froth Blowout Foam from roots to ends. The Froth helped to build body, tame frizz, and provide heat protection. He followed with one pump of Milbon’s Smooth Luminous Bodifying Oil through the mid-lengths and ends to add softness and shine.
He then rough dried the hair before moving into the smoothing stage.
Step 2: Smoothing With Lift
Since the style needed to last through a full day of Comic-Con appearances, Anh focused on building lift while smoothing the hair. Working in sections from the bottom upward, he maintained volume while creating a polished foundation for the waves.
As the hair began to expand during the blow-dry due to San Diego’s humid weather, he applied a half pump of Milbon’s Anti-Frizz Humidity Blocking Oil through the ends to help tame frizz and maintain a smooth finish without sacrificing natural body.
Step 3: Creating the Waves
Anh established a middle part. Then using a 1.25” Marcel curling iron, Anh worked from the bottom sections upward, creating his signature Nu Waves. This horizontal wave pattern creates effortless movement while maintaining a relaxed, modern finish.
Step 4: Adding Texture & Hold
To maintain volume throughout the day, Anh worked two pea-sized amounts of Monochromatic Puff Finishing Paste into the roots. This created a soft cushion, body, and lift.
He then misted the style with Milbon’s Flex Memory Hairspray 7 to provide flexible hold while preserving the hair’s natural movement.
Finally, Anh finished the look with a pea-sized amount of Monochromatic Velvet Texturizing Cream through the ends. This enhanced separation and provided additional control to combat the day’s humidity.
The Results
Jessica’s finished hairstyle balanced natural movement, volume, and touchable texture while standing up to a full day of Comic-Con press events. By layering lightweight styling products with thoughtful humidity protection, Anh created effortless Nu Waves that maintained their shape, softness, and movement throughout the day.
