Friday Treat : Layering Tops
[unpaid/affiliate] Remember when Me & Em made the most lovely layering tops? Kind of like a t-shirt fit but with lace or detailed collar so you could have your jumper over the top but not nearly boil to death – I still have some from at least five years ago when they were still vaguely affordable and wear them often in autumn and winter. I like to layer because I don’t like bulky clothing or cuffed shirts (shirts in general, unless they’re linen) so I’ve sought out a few tops that are great for going under woollen tank tops, v-neck sweaters or open cardigans.

Starting with this slightly raised neck bra-top from Uniqlo – it’s in my basket as we speak and available in several colours but this burgundy shade is the most exciting amongst the stone and the blue. I truly do live in Uniqlo bra tops so this is an absolute shoe-in for my wardrobe. It comes in sizes xxs to xl and is £24.99 HERE.

M&S have come up trumps with this stretch lace top with a bit of a neck. It’s a cotton blend and comes in a wine shade too. Sizes are 6-22 and it’s £28 HERE. You could even slip it under a dress but I like the idea of wearing it with a black and white tank top that I’ve got and some black trousers. As an aside, the M&S Organza pleated skirt HERE is walking out of stores if you fancy a truly versatile skirt that you can wear with Fairisle tanks, chunky jumpers or the lace top above. Bit of a winner, as the ever dwindling stock would suggest.

Hush has gone all snakey which shakes things up from leopard print or the on-trend cow prints that I just can’t get on board with. I just don’t see faux cow skin as a thing. High necks seem to be the new collars this season – and I like the way this pattern is warm with a mix of black and brown. I’d bet at the design board it started as black and white. It’s £50 HERE and comes in sizes xs-xl. I’d like to see this mixed with a check print coat (which are everywhere and I’m not complaining).

Nobody’s Child has this frill collar – well, it’s more of a ripple really and I love it for when you just feel you want something at the neck but nothing structured or restricting. It’s £39 HERE. The top has a little frill at the cuffs too and comes in sizes 4-18.

If you fancied going full frill and bringing your inner Adam Ant out for an airing, Joules has this jersey top in sizes 6 to 26 – it’s a very comfortable play on a ruffled blouse and will work as well for suits as it will for jeans and a tank top. It’s £39.95 HERE.
