In-office Treatments for glass skin
Hydrating Facials
In-office treatments can provide high-quality results with little to no downtime. Many deliver glowing results, but for glass skin, New York dermatologist Noelani González, MD and aesthetician Nichelle Temple agree that the HydraFacial is at the top of the list. “HydraFacials help to decongest and clear out the pores, minimizing their appearance, all while drenching the skin in hydrating ingredients,” says Temple. The treatment is also highly customizable to fit different needs and concerns, making it suitable for most skin types, including those with sensitive skin.
Dr. González also notes that medical-grade facials, such as the DiamondGlow facial, are great for glass-like shine. Like the Hydrafacial, it combines exfoliation with deep cleansing and infusion to smooth the skin. However, the DiamondGlow is a microdermabrasion treatment and usually requires some downtime following your appointment. “With this treatment, you’ll need to account for a couple of hours of redness after the treatment,” adds Dr. González.
Microcurrent
Beyond facials, the experts say that opting for treatments that stimulate collagen production or cellular turnover is ideal for glass skin results. “Microcurrent stimulates facial muscles to enhance circulation and increase elastin and collagen production,” says Temple. She explains that the treatment essentially lifts the natural contours of the face to smooth the skin while also giving it that healthy glow glass skin is known for.
Lasers
Fractional laser treatments such as the Moxi Laser, can be beneficial for softening texture and boosting radiance. “Fraxel is another option that helps to create a smoother, more even complexion, improve skin tone and minimize pore size, leading to a more radiant and luminous appearance. The result is often healthier, more youthful-looking skin with a natural, dewy glow. However, it’s important to consult a dermatologist to determine if Fraxel is suitable for your skin type and concerns,” says New York dermatologist Anetta Reszko, MD.
Peels
An even and brightened complexion is an essential element of glass skin. That said, deeply exfoliating treatments such as peels can be ideal for giving your skin a glossy and smooth finish. “In-office peels are great for sloughing away layers of dead skin and improving texture and pigmentation,” says Scottsdale, AZ dermatologist Brooke Jeffy, MD .
Dr. Reszko adds that opting for a peel with a low concentration of acid and a low pH cool peeling system best supports the skin’s natural process so that only damaged cells are removed. “A series of mild peels won’t compromise the integrity of the epidermis and reveals a healthy, glowing layer of skin,” she says.
How to get glass skin at home
Glass skin depends on exfoliation and hydration and while in-office treatments are nice, you can achieve results at home by implementing a routine that prioritizes those two steps. “Creating a skin-care routine that focuses on cell turnover, hydration and sun protection, will go a long way in improving the look and feel of your skin,” says Dr. Reszko. She recommends beginning your routine with a gentle cleanser and then incorporating a serum rich in antioxidants and hydrating ingredients. “Look for a serum that contains large amounts of hyaluronic acid, such as Environ’s HA Intensive Hydrating Serum, to lock in moisture and support skin elasticity production,” she says.
Along with your daily and nightly routines, the pros say that you can utilize at-home peel treatments to give your skin an extra luminous look. “Dr. Dennis Gross’ Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel is a great option to use at home,” says Dr. Jeffy. She recommends starting slowly, using it one to two times per week for the best results.
