Essential Logic, Exotic Pets and Helen McCookerybook at The Lexington – LOUD WOMEN
A stacked Tuesday night at The Lexington saw post-punk pioneer Lora Logic return with Essential Logic — and if anyone thought the fire might have dimmed over the decades, they were proved wrong from the first blaring sax. Still gloriously skew-whiff, still utterly themselves, Essential Logic turned the stage into a playground of rhythms, dissonance and sheer joy.
Warming up the room, Exotic Pets brought their own jagged energy, sharp and wiry in all the right ways (feat Emily Doyle of LOUD WOMEN Fest London superstars Luxury Nan Smell!), while Helen McCookerybook’s set was a reminder of how much wit and warmth she’s given punk over the years — intimate, wise and quietly radical.
In between, Big Joanie’s Estella Adeyeri kept the vibe flowing with impeccable DJ sets, weaving punk, post-punk and indie into a soundtrack that felt like the glue holding it all together. And for anyone who wasn’t ready to go home, DJ Kloakroom Kev kept the party rolling downstairs.
A night that was part history lesson, part celebration, and part urgent reminder: this music never lost its bite.
