Deadlands talks toxic obsession in ‘Limbo’ – LOUD WOMEN

226

New York band Deadlands explores lust and toxic obsession in a new single Limbo off of their upcoming concept EP SEVEN (out 27 June via Spinefarm) which tackles the seven deadly sins.

‘Limbo’ more heavily relies on Kasey Karlsen’s clean vocals than some of their other tracks, but still packs a powerful punch with her intermittent screams. Breaking from the usual depiction of lust, this track explores more of the self destructive side to being in a relationship that is solely one-sided.

“‘Limbo’ describes the story of falling in love with someone who is purely using you to satisfy their own desires. The purpose of this song is to focus on the destructive aspects of lust and how it can not only hurt someone else but also lead to self-destruction whether you’re the one with the feelings or not.”

Instrumentals for the song are still very distinct to Deadlands usual sound. A slight cyberpunk lean to metalcore with heavy synth, melodic guitar, and rhythmic drums. A deeply emotional track with danceability but still holding to the metalcore genre.

The music video offers a movement-heavy tale of duality. Flicking between a gorgeous church set with the full band in romantic attire and a split-screen of two people’s perspectives of a relationship. Red, lustful and thriving in the midst of open exploration, and a depressed blue side where the loneliness is almost crushing. A sudden twist ending gives a bit of the band’s fun personality in the story without taking away from it.

Deadlands is currently touring with long time friend Scene Queen across the US!

(on a personal note I’ve seen Kasey/Deadlands live about 4-5 times and they are an amazing, fun, time!)
