Anna Mylee launches new progressive project Exometry with EP ‘Descent’ – LOUD WOMEN
Progressive metal thrives on pushing boundaries, and Exometry, a London-and-Belgium-based trio, arrives with a debut that does exactly that.
Formed in 2023 by drummer Anna Mylee (Crimson Veil, Dorja) and guitarist/bassist Alen Fomichev, the project found its final form when vocalist Jude Benjamin joined, bringing an emotive presence to the lineup.
Exometry merges the intensity of metal with the layered complexity of progressive rock and a raw, grungy edge. Citing influences such as Tool, Deftones, Haken, Porcupine Tree, and Opeth, they craft sprawling compositions that are purposeful and immersive.
Mylee’s intricate drumming underpins the shape of the songs and is the driving force behind the trio. Having already made a name for herself as the celebrated drummer of Dorja and Crimson Veil, Exometry now only further showcases her dynamic skills and creativity.
Beneath the lyrics runs a current of esotericism and philosophical reflection. The first single ‘Foxes & Lions’ showcases coiled grooves and sudden melodic blooms in a masterclass of tension and release, whereas ‘Amathia’ hypnotises and builds to a cathartic finale.
Descent as a whole EP explores ideas of propaganda, mass control, and the fracturing of reality, mirroring modern turbulence through the music as well as the lyrics.
The overall sound is technical without indulgence, heavy and yet dreamy, and incredibly intense, but with a cool detachment.
There is so much for the listener to delve into here, and with repeated listens, the music only grows in depth and offers new things on each experience. To conclude, it is a formidable debut that promises exciting things to come.
