Alysa Liu stepped out with effortlessly soft waves at the 34th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party. To complement her look for the evening, Anh Co Tran created airy movement and texture while maintaining a smooth, luminous finish. Here’s how Anh styled Alysa’s hair for the event.
1. The Prep
Anh began on damp hair, applying three palmfuls of Milbon&’s Monochromatic Froth Blowout Foam from roots to ends. The Froth Blowout Foam helped to build body throughout the hair while providing long-lasting hold and heat protection.
He then applied one pump of Milbon’s Anti-Frizz Humidity Blocking Oil through the mid-lengths and ends. This added moisture and smoothed the hair’s surface, reinforcing a frizz-free finish.
2. The Blowdry
To begin the blow dry, Anh rough dried Alysa’s hair 80% dry using the Dyson Airwrap Coanda2x with Fast Dryer attachment to remove excess moisture while maintaining natural body in the hair.
Once the hair was mostly dry, Anh switched to the Round Volumizing Brush attachment on the Dyson Airwrap Coanda2x to smooth the hair, working in smaller sections from roots to ends. This technique helped build volume and lift while creating a smooth foundation for the waves.
He then refined her front sections using the Dyson Supersonic r to smooth out the bangs, creating a polished finish around the face.
3. The Waves
With the blowout complete, Anh styled Alysa’s hair with Combo Waves: a combination of his signature Lived-In Wave and Nu Wave techniques. Using a 1.25” Marcel curling iron, he alternated the wave patterns throughout the hair to create natural movement and dimension.
4. The Finish
To add definition to the hair’s texture and give a boost of hydration, Anh applied Milbon&’s Monochromatic Velvet Texturizing Cream to the ends of the hair.
He then misted Milbon’s Weightless Dry Texture Spray 4 throughout the hair to enhance lift and texture.
To complete Alysa’s style, Anh sealed the look with Milbon’s Flex Memory Hold Hairspray 7, locking the waves in place while maintaining a touchable finish and hold.
The Result
Alysa’s hairstyle featured soft combo waves with effortless movement and a smooth finish. The look was perfect for the glamour and celebration of the Academy Awards.
