  Acharya Sushruta has described the treatment of Putana Graha in the 32nd chapter of Uttara Tantra.

  For Parisechana – Kapotavankadi Kashaya (Kapotavanka, Araluka, Varuna, Paribhadraka and Asphota) is used.

  For preparation of Taila (to be used for anointing etc) – Vachadi Taila (Vacha, Vayastha, Golomi, Haritala, Manassila, Kustha and Sarjarasa) is used.

  For Ghrta (panartha) – Tugakshiri Ghrta, Madhura Gana Siddha Ghrta or Kusthadi Ghrta (Kustha, Talisa, Khadira and Chandana) is used.

  For Dhupana – Devadarvadi Dhupana (Devadaru, Vacha, Hingu, Kustha, Girikadamba, Ela and Harenu) or Gandhanakulyadi Dhupana (Gandhanakuli, Kumbhika, Badara Majja, bones of crabs and ghee and Sarshapa) are used.

  For Dharana – Amulets of Kakadani, Citraphala, Bimbi and Gunja are tied.

  For Bali – Oblations are given with rice cooked with fish, krsara and palala. They should all be kept inside a box or earthen saucers and offered in a VACANT HOUSE.

  For Snana – ABHISHEKA JALA should be used for bathing.

  Features of Goddess Putana – Wears dirty clothes, has dirty and rough hairs, resides in vacant houses, is ugly in appearance, emits bad smell, looks terrifying like dark clouds and resides in broken houses.

The 32nd chapter of Uttaratantra of Sushruta Samhita is named as Pūtanāgraha Pratişedha Adhyaya. This chapter deals with the Treatment of Pütanāgraha.  

अथातः पूतनाप्रतिषेधं व्याख्यास्यामः ||१||
यथोवाच भगवान् धन्वन्तरिः ||२||

We will now expound Pütanã (graha) pratişedha – treatment of the child seized by Pütanãgraha; as revealed by the venerable Dhañvañtari.

Parisecana, Taila

कपोतवङ्काऽरलुको वरुणः पारिभद्रकः |
आस्फोता चैव योज्याः स्युर्बालानां परिषेचने ||३||
वचा वयःस्था गोलोमी हरितालं मनःशिला |
कुष्ठं सर्जरसश्चैव तैलर्थे वर्ग इष्यते ||४||

Parisecana – Decoction should be prepared with the below mentioned ingredients and be used to bathe / shower the child –

        Kapotavanka

        Araluka

        Varuna

        Paribhadraka

        Asphota

Taila – Oil for anointing or giving massage to the body of the child afflicted by Putana Graha should be prepared with the below mentioned herbs –

        Vacā,

        Vayasthā,

        Golomi,

        Haritāla,

        Manaśśilā,

        Kustha and

        Sarjarasa

Ghrta

हितं घृतं तुगाक्षीर्यां सिद्धं मधुरकेषु  |
कुष्ठतालीशखदिरचन्दनस्यन्दने तथा ||५||

Ghee administered for drinking / licking by the child should be prepared with the below mentioned ingredients –

        Tugakshiri

        Madhura Gana / Kakolyadi Gana group of herbs or

        Kustha, Talisa, Khadira and Candana

Dhupana, Dharana

देवदारुवचाहिङ्गुकुष्ठं गिरिकदम्बकः |
एला हरेणवश्चापि योज्या उद्धूपने सदा ||६||
गन्धनाकुलिकुम्भीके मज्जानो बदरस्य  |
कर्कटास्थि घृतं चापि धूपनं सर्षपैः सह ||७||
काकादनीं चित्रफलां बिम्बीं गुञ्जां च धारयेत् |

Dhupana Below mentioned recipes shall be used for providing fumigation to the child afflicted by Putana Graha –

        Devadaru, Vaca, Hingu, Kustha, Girikadamba, Ela and Harenu

        Gandhanakuli, Kumbhika, Badara majja, Bones of crabs and Ghee and Sarsapa

Dharana – Amulets of Kakadani, Citraphala (Indravaruni), Bimbi and Gunja should be tied on the arms / body of the child.

Bali

मत्स्यौदनं  कुर्वीत कृशरां पललं तथा |
शरावसम्पुटे कृत्वा बलिं शून्यगृहे हरेत् ||८||

Oblations to Putana Graha should be given with rice cooked with fish, Krsara – rice cooked with green or black grams, Palala – meat. The materials mentioned in the oblations should be kept inside a box or earthen saucers and shall be offered to Putana Graha in a vacant house.

Snana, Puja

उच्छिष्टेनाभिषेकेण शिशोः स्नपनमिष्यते |
पूज्या  पूतना देवी बलिभिः सोपहारकैः ||९||
मलिनाम्बरसंवीता मलिना रूक्षमूर्धजा |
शून्यागाराश्रिता देवी दारकं पातु पूतना ||१०||
दुर्दर्शना सुदुर्गन्धा कराला मेघकालिका |
भिन्नगाराश्रया देवी दारकं पातु पूतना ||११||

Water which remains or is collected after bathing the Gods shall be used to bathe the child afflicted by Putana Graha. After offering oblations, Goddess Putana should be worshipped as – ‘Goddess Putana, you, wearing dirty clothes also have dirty and rough hairs. You reside in vacant houses. Please protect this child. Goddess Putana, you have ugly appearance, emit a bad smell, look terrifying like dark clouds and reside in broken houses. Please protect the child.’

इति श्रीसुश्रुतसंहितायामुत्तरतन्त्रान्तर्गते कुमारतन्त्रे (षष्ठोऽध्यायः, आदितः) द्वात्रिंशोऽध्यायः।।३२||

Thus ends the thirty second chapter by name Putana Pratişedha in Uttara sthana of Suśruta Samhita.
