I love a good trip to the drugstore. As a full-time mom of a toddler, my neighborhood CVS is without a doubt my happy place to buy everything from a single source, from toiletries to pushed nails to kombucha and healthy (and unhealthy) snacks. It is incredibly comforting to browse the hallways surrounded by agents that promise to cure what ails me in the agonizing and uncertain times of COVID-19. Sometimes I even get a friendly wave from the pharmacist.
Turns out CVS isn’t just good for my daily run – it’s an untapped fashion mecca. My obsession with shopping for clothes there took hold during the lockdown but officially began three years ago when I stopped by on my way to the grill to pick up a greeting card. Directly at the cash register was a shelf with tea-length dresses in bright colors that could be used as a bathing suit or with a denim jacket and espadrilles for an inconspicuous evening. For the price of $ 10, I felt like I had nothing to lose. I ran home and changed into the cute and comfy “CVS Special” for that meeting, and it was so well received that I wore it to work the following Monday as well. I’ll admit, I felt a little weird at first wearing something I bought from the same place I bought toilet paper and floss, but the compliments have been mostly positive. Nobody could believe I found a fancy dress at CVS. I was hooked.
In the middle of the pandemic, the drugstore was a place I was allowed to visit.
Since that fateful day, I’ve bought several dresses from CVS, including one I wore to a festive dinner for my 40th birthday. Prices are always reasonable and range from $ 7 to $ 20. (I’ve never spent more than $ 25 on a single piece.) Every spring, I check out the new selection of clothes in the CVS stores near me and buy one or two to keep me going for summer and fall to keep Combine my finds with ankle boots and leggings. As soon as autumn comes, I give the clothes to my nieces to wear next summer so I can replenish my supplies. That year, vacation shopping became easy when I gave CVS Lildy clothing as a gift to friends and family who always viewed my wardrobe with envy and a little disbelief.
Last year I added tunics, cardigans and leggings to my CVS wardrobe. In the middle of the pandemic, the drugstore was a place I was allowed to visit to get medicine. Although I was scared of leaving my house, when I arrived at CVS, I took advantage of the clothing displays that featured lildy loungewear and activewear with comfortable but stylish hoodies and leggings perfect for remote work. In the fall, when I returned to my teaching job to study in person, I went straight to CVS to buy sleek cardigans and flowing tunics to freshen up my professional wardrobe.
The convenience of having access to stylish items after a massive clean of the closet during quarantine was quite great. And being able to try on clothes in the privacy of my own home without the hassle of online returns was a bonus. If something doesn’t fit (a rare occurrence) I can easily return it the next time I need to buy toothpaste or tampons. When someone asks me where I got my cute outfit, I proudly say “CVS” with a smile and enjoy the expression of shock and admiration I get in return.
See how I styled my favorite CVS pieces ahead of time and shop for them yourself – you won’t regret it.
