If you are trying to access WhatsApp tonight, you may not be alone if you have serious problems. It seems that the hugely popular chat app, which now has around 2 billion users, is having big problems with thousands of reports that the service is unavailable and not working.
The independent tracking website DownDetector, which monitors mentions on social media to keep track of when web services are offline, indicates that the outage is currently affecting thousands of WhatsApp users. In fact, at the time of writing, there are around 70,000 complaints that users cannot access the app.
It is unclear what exactly is causing the problems, but it also appears that Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger are having issues with fans of these apps complaining about not being able to access the services.
On the Down Detector forum page, a user said, “Help I urgently need to send a WhatsApp message about some messages I received from India. What am I doing?”
While another added, “All three apps are down on Facebook insta and WhatsApp must have something to do with the servers.”
Users also flocked to social media to express their frustrations with a fan who said, “WhatsApp and Instagram are down. Me too.”
Another tweeted, “WhatsApp Down and Instagram can’t update feeds.”
Fortunately, things seem to be back to normal as reports are being cleared and users on Twitter confirm that they can now access chats. We’ll keep you up to date.
