Warning: Tens of millions of hackers goal widespread porn web sites

Malwarebytes said that typically ad campaigns – which use advertisements to distribute dangerous malware – target websites that don’t generate a lot of user traffic.

Malsmoke is a different breed as it targets high traffic sites like xHamster so the nefarious campaign can “get the maximum number of infections”.

Unfortunately, Malwarebytes warned that this type of threat is likely to persist for a while.

Malwarebytes stated, “Malsmoke was one of the most noticeable distributors of malvertising and exploit kits to get noticed on high profile websites.

“While we thought the threat actor was silent, they simply changed tactics to keep their operations going. Instead of directing a small fraction of visitors to adult websites that were still running Internet Explorer, they now have their reach on all extended browser.

“In the absence of high-quality software vulnerabilities and exploits, social engineering is a great option because it is inexpensive and reliable. In terms of web threats, such programs will remain for the foreseeable future.”
