Uber has spent $ 1.1 billion to acquire alcohol-supply start-up Drizly. After the acquisition, Uber confirmed that Drizly will operate as a standalone brand for the time being. However, Uber will work on integrating the Drizly system with Uber Eats eventually. Uber Eats is a grocery delivery project for the Ride Hail app that has seen profits skyrocket following the lockdown measures enforced during the pandemic.

As people travel less frequently, Uber bookings have seen the same decline as public transit. However, food delivery has grown in popularity.

Uber says drivers who work for the brand now have more opportunities to earn – given the options to deliver groceries, drive people, and receive courier drinks.

Drizly is the latest in a series of moves by Uber to expand its business model by simply moving people from one place to another. Last year the company announced the launch of an Uber Connect package delivery service.
