I don’t know about you, but the House of Gucci premiere was circled in red ink on my calendar all of 2021. How could I not look forward to the greatest fashion-oriented movie since The Devil Wears Prada? After watching the film, I was eager to speak to the film’s costume designer, Janty Yates, who expertly came up with looks that spanned three decades, the 70s, 80s, and 90s – no easy task.
In my interview with Yates, she revealed the outfit that appeared briefly in the trailer but never made it into the movie. The look is a sequined blue halter neck dress Lady Gaga wears while clubbing in one of the promotional images, and Yates described how Lady Gaga herself insisted the look was “outrageous”.
“[This scene] It was supposed to be just a black sequin dress, ”Yates told Who What Wear Lady Gaga said, ‘Get me the most hideous and terribly loud sequin fabric you can find.’ My buyer came with this wonderful light turquoise. It is very loud. [Lady Gaga’s character] is six months pregnant here. Unfortunately, [the scene] is only in the trailer, not in the actual film.
