Sky is constantly adding new features to its Sky Q set-top box, including new shortcuts to jump to your favorite movies and special landing pages for hit shows and sporting events. The latter brings together clips, news and boxing sets for the biggest television events like the Euro 2020 tournament, Love Island and more.
Both are only available to users with the Sky Q voice remote control. This must-have accessory unlocks a range of fantastic features, including the ability to find movies by a specific director, the next game from a specific soccer team, or shows with your favorite actors, simply by pressing and holding the Voice button – denoted by a microphone icon – and say the name in the remote control.
This saves a ton of time compared to typing with the alphanumeric keypad on the bottom of all Sky Q remotes. While this works well enough, tapping the same button four times to type an “s” isn’t exactly ideal.
Better still, anyone with a Sky Q voice remote can ask, “What should I see?” for inspiration. This will create suggestions for new box sets, movies, and live channels based on your viewing history. It’s important to note that the Sky Q didn’t have voice recognition features built in, so the suggestions are based on what was seen on the box … not specifically by you. Anyone in your household can ask the Sky Q voice remote and get the same suggestions.
However, if you have a Sky Q mini box in a different room in your home, the suggestions will change based on what was viewed on that box – compared to the main set top box in your living room. So if younger viewers in the household have a Sky Q Mini-Box in their room, expect a lot of CiTV and Cartoon Network programs on the landing page to answer the question “What should I watch?” appears.
Sky has already offered its Sky Q Voice Remote to some customers free of charge. These promotions may appear from time to time, but there is currently no such offer. While new Sky Q subscribers will find the voice remote in the box, those who have had the satellite box for a while may have the previous iteration of the remote with a button on the side or no voice control at all.
