When stars were asked to celebrate the Met Gala American-style, they followed the dress code – and more. We were treated to the return of a busy (and fully vaccinated) red carpet littered with the kind of total, you-in-your-your-track-stopping glamor that hasn’t been around for nearly two years. On Monday night, celebrities celebrated the return of the highly anticipated Met Gala with a series of stunning looks that paid tribute to the theme by celebrating American designers, American culture, and some of the country’s most beloved icons, and giving us all a glimpse into the America that we love.
Some moments were more theatrical (we’re looking at you, Lil Nas X) while others were more subtle allusions to America. With the selection of looks conquering the red carpet, choosing favorites isn’t easy, but these eight women each told a unique story with their looks and delighted us upon arrival. From co-chair Amanda Gorman in a bespoke Vera Wang gown to Kaia Gerber, whose Oscar de la Renta gown paid homage to Bianca Jagger’s 1981 Met Ball look, scroll through for our best attire of the night.
