The darkish theme of Google Maps for Android has FINALLY appeared – and it was well worth the wait

The dark theme of Google Maps affects both the map layer and the menu and offers some stylish visual detail.

When dark mode is on, the sea appears pitch black with an outline for adjacent land or bridges that run across the water.

Other changes include UI elements changing from white to light gray or light blue colors and a darker shade of blue.

If you’ve already turned on system-wide dark mode, the app will prompt you to turn on dark mode when you open Google Maps.

You can toggle the feature on or off by going to Settings> Theme.

You can choose from different options, either to have Google Maps always in light, always in dark or always in the same device theme.

Google announced in late February that dark mode would finally be available on Google Maps.
