Following the release of this upcoming change to Google Messages, Google Duo is also blocking access for “unsupported devices”.
As reported by 9to5Google, the latest update for Google Duo – version 123 – includes a notice warning affected users who will lose access to the app.
The message says: “Duo is leaving soon.
“Since you are using an unsupported device, Duo will soon be signing out your account on that device. Download your clips and call history to avoid losing them.”
While this warning says “unsupported” instead of “uncertified” devices, a cursory glance at the Duo code reveals that these seem to be the same thing.
So if you have a device that is not properly certified to use Google Play services (aka newer Huawei phones), you’re running out of time to take advantage of and enjoy what Google Duo has to offer.
