There is some great news for Freeview fans. The company confirms it is bringing its popular play service back to all new LG TVs this year. That means anyone who buys a 2021 TV from the Korean tech firm will find Freeview Play preinstalled right away. This way of watching TV was unfortunately missing on last year’s LG TVs, but has now been corrected in this latest update.
Thanks to the built-in Freeview Play, LG Smart TV owners can watch some of the UK’s most popular TVs in one place without the need for a separate set-top box or streaming stick to be plugged into the back of their glasses box.
In addition to over 85 live channels, Freeview Play on LG also offers nine on-demand players. BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My5, UKTV Play, CBS CatchUp Channels UK, Horror Bites, STV Player and BBC Sounds.
That means you have access to over 30,000 hours of on-demand TV and over 750 box sets, all of which can be viewed without paying a penny more.
The fact that there is no fee to pay is clearly popular with Freeview Play, which recently announced that it is now the UK’s fastest growing TV platform and is having its most successful year ever in 2020.

“By staying home, we can stay connected to television,” said Owen Jenkinson, Marketing Director at Freeview.
“With over 30,000 hours of content, Freeview Play’s incredible line-up is free and easily accessible to everyone. Whether it’s a reference to Prue Leith or a First Dates disaster, we can all join the conversation. “
Of course, LG isn’t the only company that is installing Freeview on their televisions. Sony, Toshiba, JVC, and Hisense also sell devices that have this service pre-installed.
It’s also worth noting that there are many devices on the market that can bring this free content to the big screen if you’ve bought a non-Freeview TV.
Some even offer an experience similar to Sky Q in that they can record multiple programs at the same time and play content in full 4K resolution.
