Netflix is undoubtedly the gold standard when it comes to streaming box sets and movies, but now, more than ever, the service faces numerous threats to its throne. From new competitors like Disney Plus to the proposed merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery that could lead to a new streaming giant, the threats to Netflix’s dominance are numerous. The biggest threat to Netflix’s number one, however, may not come from a new rival, but from a veteran – Amazon Prime Video.
The retail giant’s offering is the second largest video streaming service in the world with 175 million users compared to Netflix’s 208 million.
Compare that to Disney Plus’ 103.6 million subscribers. This shows how much closer Prime Video is to overtaking Netflix than any of its peers.
And a new deal that is in the works could help attract lots of new subscribers to Amazon Prime Video.

The deal could cost Amazon as much as £ 7 billion, and if a deal is reached, it could make Prime Video one of the most iconic movie franchises of all time.
While Disney Plus has a grip on the Star Wars and Marvel films, the MGM deal could lead Amazon to corner the Bond franchise.
And since the next Bond movie – No Time To Die – isn’t out in theaters yet, the prospect of this new adventure from 007 – plus the dozens of films from the secret agent’s back catalog – directed to Prime Video in the future is delicious View.
In addition to the Bond series, other legendary IPs like Rocky and The Hobbit franchise could also go to Prime in the MGM deal.
Other classic MGM films include Ben Hur, North By Northwest, Thelma and Louise, A Star Is Born, Poltergeist, and many more.
In total, there are over 4,000 movies in the MGM staple, with the studio claiming to offer one of the “deepest libraries” for premium movie and TV content.
MGM’s hit TV series include Vikings, Fargo and The Handmaid’s Tale.
Representatives from Amazon and MGM have not commented on the reports.
If Amazon manages to acquire MGM, it would greatly support an already compelling range of exclusive content.
Prime Video has compiled an impressive array of must-have original box sets and films over the years, including The Boys, Bosch, 21 Bridges, The Report, and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.
While Amazon is also working on a show that could become the next Game of Thrones – Prime Videos’ highly anticipated TV series Lord of the Rings.
