MAC Spill the Tea & Ring the Alarm Lipsticks Evaluations & Swatches

MAC Spill the Tea Lipstick ($19.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a slightly light medium dark coral with moderate warm undertones – balanced between pink and orange – paired with an off-white finish. There was enough shine to be visible for the first few hours of wear before wearing off to a soft matte finish.

It had rich pigmentation in a single stroke that applied evenly to my lips and didn’t accentuate lip texture or lip lines. It lasted well for four and a half hours and felt moisturizing overall.

MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear usually depends on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, usually only wear for a few hours and have a sheer coverage (as intended) and don’t dry.

Some of the original matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-like feel, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most matte shades are fairly pigmented and long-lasting, although some do dry.

The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, slightly creamy to moderately creamy textures with some shine, and moderate to long-lasting wear with deeper, richer shades worn for longer. The frost and metallic finishes have the greatest variability between shades, with opacity ranging from semi-transparent to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla scented but have no discernible taste.

MAC Ring the Alarm Lipstick ($19.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a darker, slightly muted coral red with subtle warmth and a semi-matte finish. It had opaque color coverage that applied comfortably to my lips, although it felt a little thicker. It wore well for five and a half hours, left a faint stain, and felt neither dry nor moisturized when worn.
